Figs serves up Mediterranean dishes in a cozy setting that feels warm and homey, yet exotic. The kitchen is open in the back and the constant flaring of the grill serves as a reminder of your food being made fresh. It’s also BYOB so you can save a considerable amount on drinks if you plan ahead. The food was good with lots of traditional Mediterranean and somewhat Moroccan dishes, like lots of couscous. The appetizers were good, especially the baked brie which was gooey and tasty, though a little heavy on the lavender. The humus sampler was also good, but I felt it missed a certain pop. The entrees were similarly very solid, but lacking a slight something to really make them stand out. The lamb was enormous and well seasoned, I could only finish about half of it. The shrimp were probably the tastiest dish with lots of flavor and a good serving size. With the large table size and BYOB, Figs is a great place for an event or party as well.

Figs is a very nice BYOB restaurant to dine in before visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art on one of those lazy Sunday mornings. You can beat the proximity – a half a block from the museum. It’s a small place but the food is excellent and reasonably priced. The staff and owner are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I recommend their crab benedict.

fresh mediterranean food in a charming location near the art museum. byob keeps the price of a meal down. sometimes stiflingly hot, especially back by the kitchen. service is always highly attentive.

I am not happy with how this place is run. Just a few days over a year ago, a friend gave me a gift certificate, and I never had anyone to use it with. I just called to ask whether they would kindly extend the gift certificate (expires in a year) just one week, as I'd finally been able to make plans to come in. I've NEVER had any small business refuse a gift certificate, even one many months past the expiration date. But, the owner gave some line about how they'd already paid taxes on the money (which makes a huge difference in a week, not around any kind of tax deadline...), and there was "nothing" he could do. Right. He owns the place, there's everything he could do. What's the huge deal? I own a small business, and I can't imagine refusing someone to use a gift certificate if it were within a month or two of the deadline. What crap.

It's a small, cozy BYOB with a limited menu but everything on the menu is sure to please! We have taken friends and family there many times and they always rave about it. It gets crowded so make a reservation, they have always done a great job honoring our reservations.
