It was looking so wintery on our walk of Dartford Heath today. This whole route will be lush and green in the summer.

Emerging into the light
Piccadilly Circus

Except that I'm doing nothing of the sort. I'm on day 2 of an epic 3 day study marathon and wondering why everyone but me found this subject easy. Governance, risk and ethics - riveting stuff indeed.

To dreaming of travel and adventures, books and films, restaurants and nights out.

Kalemegdan Vistas

I've recently bought This is Serbia Calling: Rock and Roll Radio and Belgrade’s Underground Resistance. It is a book on the underground resistance to the war and the fight against nationalism - as pertinent today as it was 20 years ago.

Just seeing the book on my bookshelf has me wondering when I'll return to Serbia. Sooner rather than later, I hope.

This photo was taken at Kalemegdan Fortress in Belgrade, highly recommended for panoramic views of the city.

Shadows, golden light and some graffiti that clearly isn't as old as it looks (can you spot it?!)

Look up, London

When in London, always, always remember to look up. A section of the ceiling in the foyer at the British Museum. Not quite as iconic as the spectacular Foster and Partners designed glass roof in the Great Court, but special nonetheless.

If you brave the crowds and take the long walk up Mont-St-Michel to visit the abbey at the top, this is what you'll be treated to. If you ever visit the tiny mountain island of Mont-St-Michel, definitely visit the abbey and take one of the guided tours.

Talking of tours and fabulous foreign lands, why is it only February? When do we get to travel again? Le Husband is off to South Africa in four weeks but it is a whole eight weeks until we go to Lanzarote in April.

Where are you off to next?

The Dark Angel of Soho

Sometimes we all need an angel in our lives, even if it is a dubious angel with black wings in Soho

The iconic clock tower that sit atop the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia. The hour and minute hand are famously reversed so that fisherman on the Dunav (Danube) river could see the time from afar.

I suspect my hours and minutes will also be reversed today after a specifically spectacular failure to sleep last night.

Despite that, I'm looking forward to Valentines celebrations tonight!

Oh, I do love the shiny and almost brand new station at Tottenham Court Road.

In other news, I have insomnia and am feeling quite sorry for myself for not being able to sleep for the millionth night in a row. I'm complaining now of course, because I'll be incoherent in three hours.

For today's Monday morning edition of where I'd rather be (anywhere rather than here) I present to you the view of Polperro in Cornwall as you emerge from the coastal path and turn back towards the town itself.

The path is easy to walk but extremely steep at one point - I had to walk up backwards!
