I really like this idea!  I also liked that you mixed qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of the cross curricular plans.  This reminds me of one of Sean Cain's Fundamental Five activities to do in the classroom: critical writing.  If we write about what we are learning, we learn it better.  What a great idea to implement more ELA and writing into science.  If you need resources for your literature review (when that part comes up in whatever course it will be), you may want to check out The Fundamental Five as a way to tie together instruction is all courses!  Best of luck to you!

The tardy and truancy issue is certainly something worth tackling as it is important and a hot topic.  Even at TASSP this week, there were specific seminars just to tackle those issues.  Booths were also set up to sell products!  We purchased Tardy Calculator at my campus a few years ago and it has worked like a charm.  I have often heard the old adage that programs can fix problems; people must fix problems.  However, I can attest that the Tardy Calculator program worked!  I hope your research leads you to at least look at the way it works.  Happy researching!
