Solar continues to get cheaper
Originally published on RenewEconomy. Two stunning auction results in India and Chile in the last week have underscored the extraordinary gains that large-scale solar has made against its fossil fuel competitors. In both countries, solar is now clearly the cheapest option compared to new coal-fired power stations. In Chile, where the auction was open to all technologies,

Another result presented at the Endurance Research Conference in Kent, this one on strength training to improve running economy.First, some background. Running economy is like the fuel efficiency of a car: it tells you how much fuel a given runner needs to run at a given speed. The more efficient you are, the faster you should be able to race. A question that remains hotly debated, however, is how to improve running economy.

Mayor Don Iveson wore a hard hat and work gloves Tuesday to install the final solar panel on a new office building that sets a benchmark for energy efficiency. The Mosaic Centre for Conscious Community and Commerce, in Summerside, stands as “a testament to the fact that there is an intersection between commerce, between community, between our environment, and even beauty,” Iveson said at a celebration of the $10.5-million project.

New technological advances in medicine at Kingston General Hospital may be grabbing most of the headlines, but a behind-the-scenes effort that went mostly unnoticed by patients has been quietly adding to the hospital’s reputation.

Moving Society to a greener more sustainable world through carbon markets and pricing, greening ICT and articulating the benefits of green capital projects
Introduction
Working in a number of areas with some overlap between them, all in the areas of sustainability and addressing the impacts of humanity on the planet and where we live.  I have expertise and am working in the following areas;

Understanding the environmental benefits of investments in capital projects at the municipal level. This includes energy and greenhouse gas benefits, water savings and waste diversion as well as improved soil and water conditions.

Carbon management including carbon pricing and markets and policy and design issues around cap and trade programs;

Green or Sustainable ICT, including Carbon Neutral IT and Carbon Neutral Networks and determining the greenhouse gas emissions associated with datacentres and telco networks.  These include to some extent a lifecycle approach as well.  I am also an advisor on the development of an ICT sector supplement being managed by the WRI  and I am a member of a Canadian standards committee on Sustainable ICT.

Also worked on the GreenStar project on the greenhouse gas assessment of the network at http://www.greenstarnetwork.com/

I am also on the Board of CleanAirChampions (www.cleanairchampions.ca) and we have organized a series of Zero Energy Dinners (ZEDS) - http://www.ottawacitizen.com/technology/Around+Town+party+lads+lassies/7357053/story.html
