"Happiness is the setting of the soul into its most appropriate spot."  Warren Buffet

Surprise and anticipation are everywhere with the Easter Egg Hunt and Parade, ice melting on the Big Lake, boats out fishing for perch, smelt, salmon, the first crocus poking through the last snowfall. We love that it’s lighter later, the robins are back, wild asparagus appears in our Frittatas, sautéed morels on crostini, and daffodils begin to dance. Then one day Spring pops and Saugatuck 's skies become a fairyland with flowering apple, pear, crabapple, peach, cherry, dogwood and lilac trees welcoming all. They can make us giddy for weeks . . . til romance is everywhere. Masses of tulips of every hue engulf Holland and stores are getting their Spring sprucing up. Warm breezes carry The Sounds of Saugatuck so that jazz in the air leaves a light hearted optimism behind. We look forward to seeing you at Wickwood.

The Silver Palate Cookbook Named “2014  IACP Culinary Classic Book”

We’re honored that owner Julee Rosso’s cookbook is joining the ranks of Julia Childs, Marcella Hazin, James Beard, Jacques Pepin, and MFK Fisher. Only twenty others have been honored in this way. This award, from her peers in the International Association of Culinary Professionals, is a special thrill. Rosso’s Best Selling book, already in the James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame, has sold over 3,000,000 copies. Congratulations, Julee!

Why We Love What We Do!

When the ground is covered with mountains of snow and the sky is blue, at Wickwood we can cook with fresh herbs galore and the tastes sparkle like Spring!

Pictured here are micro beets, pea shoots, spicy microgreens, dill, baby arugula, mint, tarragon, rosemary sprigs, and sage.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The first snowfall. Just in time for a happy Thanksgiving to all!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Wickwood, and in Saugatuck/Douglas, as our Festival of Trees begins on November 15th. We are beginning to bake cookies galore and look forward to tasting and celebrating with each of you.

"The world is mud-luscious and puddle wonderful."
~ e. e. cummings

We've sprung forward. We've had the Equinox. Now, every day there's a new sign. Suddenly the lake is turquoise. The days sunny. Robins are everywhere. The rite of sprucing-up is going on all over town. There's promise in the air. It's the perfect time for those who like to follow the road less traveled to visit us in Saugatuck. You can explore on your own. Go off the beaten path. Wander. Get lost. Talk with the locals. Find a secret spot. You never know what you'll discover.

Spring is just around the corner. Everyday makes it more evident. There's a sense of anticipation in the air as Robins dot the ground and stores are being stocked with Spring merchandise. For most guests it is still a time of reconnection and rejuvenation. A lazy day unfolds with our Champagne Brunch followed by a walk in the snow, a visit to a gallery, a glass or two at a tasting room, a little shopping, coffee and sweets by the fire, a massage, a nap, Sips and Small Plates, dinner and then listening to a jazz trio or dancing the night away. We invite you to join us in some quiet time. Hard to find these days.

We've spent many anniversary weekends in Saugatuck, but this was our first at Wickwood. We will never stay anywhere else. We loved The Vineyard. It's nice and quiet and our featherbed gave us a wonderful night's sleep. The Inn is just steps away from the shops and restaurants of Saugatuck, but we were reticent to move from the back porch sitting areas. We spent much time reading and playing Backgamon for the three days we were at Wickwood, only interrupting ourselves when the delicious food was being served. We did manage to do some shopping and amazing beach walks though. Our Hostesses were most congenial from the moment we walked in the door and within the first few minutes we felt comfortable and relaxed, even though it was our first visit. They are extremely friendly without being intrusive and want to see to it that you are satisfied. We marveled at the Inn's decor..... very tasteful. We like to travel quite a bit and this has become our favorite. When in Saugatuck, be sure to stay at The Wickwood Inn. You'll be happy you did!

the attraction here is to be in a lovely inn with an excellent innkeeper and quite good food both for afternoon appetizers and breakfast. right in the main part of town. their website lists all of the interesting regional activities and is a quite informative site; their newsletter is always interesting, and often contains good recipes from julee russo, whose cookbooks in her previous life i adore

our room was so small, we could not open our suitcase and were forced to upgrade to a larger and more expensive room. the afternoon hors d'oeuvres and breakfasts were incredible and everything i expected! but i was quite suprised that the innkeeper, julee rosso, never appeared the two days we spent here. as a silver palate devotee for many years, i was very disappointed that i didn't meet her.

We just had an incrdible experience at this most luxurious Inn and the most amazing part was that with all of the hype we had read the owners and staff had no pretention at all. We were welcomed with great warmth, our every request was fulfilled, every question answered and we felt very much at home. That said, the most memorable part of our visit to Wickwood was two-fold...being surrounded by fantastic artwork and experiencing taste treats that will remain a memory for a long time. Bill and Julee have much to be proud of in their Inn and the group of people they have to help them provide hospitality of the first order. We all (a group of four ladies) are very well traveled and quite exacting in our standards. We were in awe from the moment we were greeted at the door until the moment we left. WOW!!

Wow! Who knew our vacation in Michigan would be this spectacular?! I cannot think of one other place that comes even close to our weekend at the Wickwood Inn! My husband and I love to travel, and I must confess, I take pride in “discovering” GREAT places for us to stay. After our weekend at the Wickwood, a new standard has been set! Every aspect of our time there has me eager for our return trip to Saugatuck. We loved how luxurious and tasteful everything is at the Wickwood: vases full of fresh flowers, fine art at every turn, a fire burning in the living room, and the masterful combination of attentive service whenever we needed it, yet privacy whenever we wanted it. And I have to say, while I was grateful for the wireless service throughout the Inn, I also adored having books around me instead of television. This place really allows you to pause and enjoy...and indulge! Truthfully, it’s the food at the Wickwood that I still wake up thinking about. The hand-selected, local ingredients brought such amazing flavor to each dish...but the food here has me convinced that “passion” just might be the best, and most necessary, ingredient for outstanding meals. From the first bite of a cookie I had when we were welcomed, to the sticky buns as part of the champagne brunch, then the cheddar olives, tomato jam and shimp & crab costini in the evening...my mouth is watering as I write this. There is nothing ordinary about the variety, quality, and volume of food that you will enjoy while at Wickwood. Our lovely room, the Kyoto Junior Suite, was perfect: nicely appointed and very comfortable. With all of the incredible food and pampering, I may have even slept better than I do in my own bed. Have I mentioned yet Wickwood’s great, central location? It was wonderful after our drive from the city to be able to just park our car and walk everywhere around town. Truth be told, my husband wasn’t initially excited by my choice of a “bed and breakfast” for our stay in West Michigan, but now he, too, cannot wait to get back to the Wickwood.
