Paul Brady is an excellent lyricist and this is an outstanding song. However even if I'm shouted down for saying so I much prefer Dolores's version to Paul's.

I was surprised to see that there are two different lead vocalists for the two songs. It brings back great memories though.

Tom Bell was very versatile. Obviously he's an ex bank robber here but he came across equally well as a cop in "Let Him Have It"

Without doubt this was one of the most dastardly legal injustices anywhere in the world. It was such a pity Iris didn't live to see her brother's wrongful conviction overturned.  It wasn't just Kenneth Clarke who was a "complete contemptible idiot". So were all his predecessors. The corruption and cover up evident in this case is symptomatic of a wider malaise everywhere.

I realise this tune might not be everybody's cup of tea but it certainly appeals to me. Delighted to note that this version includes the introduction. It brings back great memories of 1967, the year it came out.

I find it interesting to note that there are no less than 3 titles to this same beautiful and haunting tune. Here we have Lough Erin Shore. Elsewhere there's Gleanntan Ghlas Ghaoth Dobhair and finally Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore. I actually like them all but in terms of preference I place this one first, the Irish vocals by the Johnstons second and the English vocals (preferably by Dolores Keane) third. Whichever one you go for all 3 are nice to listen to.

I always associated this piece of music with Richard Clayderman but he always performs the piece backed by a synthetic orchestra. This young lady is backed by a real orchestra and for me that makes it more appealing to view and listen to. It goes without saying that she plays piano extremely well.

Obviously I'm expressing my own opinion but it's ironic that the best version of a Scottish song is by an Irish singer. There are many very good versions of this song but I rate this one as the best.

One of the catchiest tunes he ever wrote. I don't claim to be a musical expert but the inclusion of string from verse 2 onwards gives it an extra richness and the song is all the better for it.
