Never in a gazillion years did I ever think I’d be defending Kim Kardashian. But good God, ever since the queen of reality TV got pregnant with Kanye's baby, crazy talk surrounding Kim has reached a harsh new low, with tabloids calling this woman carrying a baby in her belly… wait for it… fat. And dogging out pregnant women—particularly the ones with realistic black girl curves—in the process. Talking curves, baby weight and unrealistic expectations heaped on pregnant women, today on +MyBrownBaby.

You know, I have nothing good to say about that woman. She is getting too much attention for being pregnant and still married. She has never been thin, so I don't know why people are making such a big deal about her weight.

* taps tongue on ink pen, scratches off a line on her Bucket List * Dancing with FLOTUS? DONE! Check out the video of me interviewing Michelle Obama in her "Let's Move" Google+ Hang Out, asking her about how we can get our kids outside to play, even in urban communities where gems like Hadiyah Pendleton can be killed for daring to go to the park after school—today on MyBrownBaby.

Let me be very damn clear: Homeland Security would have had to pull me off Joe Rickey Hundley, a 60-year-old man accused of slapping a crying baby in his face after demanding his mother, “shut that nigger baby up” as their Delta flight descended into Atlanta. Find out what you can do to send this old pilgrim (as my friend Stacey Patton calls him) to prison for laying hands on this child and send a strong message that our children are not to be abused, today on MyBrownBaby.

NYC's "Stop and Frisk" trial demonstrates the worst fears of every black parent of a male child; from the day that little brown boy slides into the world, the thought keeping us tossing at night is that when he begins to sprout and spread, his individuality will be stolen away, replaced by the things he represents: criminal, thug, gang member, evil. Our fears were molded into actual city policy. Talking "Stop & Frisk" and a black parent's nightmares realized, today on MyBrownBaby.

I don’t ever want my daughters to do what I do for a living. Yes, I’ve had the great fortune of having a pretty successful career, but the amount of mess that comes with being an artist who has to entrust my talent/words/ideas/art to an industry that increasingly devalues it, I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Well, maybe a few of my enemies. But definitely not my children—no matter how gangsta their writing game is. Talking Tina Fey and that "momtuition" that knows what's best for their kids' futures, today on +MyBrownBaby

Painful truth about the writing/journalism industry, especially since I've got a daughter who wanted to be a writer since see could hold a pen in her hand and write the alphabet. Hopefully things will change and the path will be easier for her, but I'm not holding my breath.

Gotta say, I still find it quite odd, too, that people still think this woman didn't carry and birth her own child. If you weren't there for conception, didn't see her stomach up close, and had no access to her delivery room, then who, really, are you to be talking about what she did and did not carry in her belly? #peopleareweird

Introduction

I’m Denene Millner.

Mom. New York Times bestselling author. Editor of MyBrownBaby.com. Pop culture ninja. Unapologetic lover of shoes, bacon and babies. Nice with the verbs. Giddy.

I'm a Yankee from New York with Southern Belle in my soul. I’m Hip Hop and home cooking 11-cheese mac and cheese (from scratch) and the best chocolate martini you ever had. I adore my man and my babies and my funky/fly/fresh family. I’m addicted to black romance movies and Law & Order. And I super heart Romare Bearden and Junot Diaz, gummy bears and black children’s books and especially my Goldendoodle, Teddy. He’s flyer than your dog on its best day. It is what it is.

I’m 100 percent intelligent black child equal parts clever and smart and down-to-earth and wit, with a smidge of snob (used only in case of emergency). The rest of the time I’m all sour apple Blow Pops and Super Nova stars.

You should know, too, that I’m a lover of my people. Black mothers in particular. We’re colorful. Hella funny. Overcomers. Creators. Herculean. Soldiers. Every last one of us when we put our minds to it. And I’m proud to be counted among us. I’ve staked my name my career on it. It’s in my DNA. All up in my bones.

I’m sure of my talent know my worth. What I do with words is pure energy a gift from God. I understand the game. I love it strong. Who am I to waste this?
