When Personal Barriers Keep Your Innovations From Being Heard...

Our bodies are so amazing. When everything is working at it's best, we can have off the charts extraordinary experiences.

Our bodies are so infuriating. They can limit us and stop us dead in our tracks and we can have horrifying experiences.

Sitting in the audience at the #BendTECHunConference2017Pitchfest yesterday listening to 18 pitches (because I geek out on this kind of stuff) one gentleman had a debilitating case of nerves, and he never rallied.

Yes we all are wired with a fight or flight response. But just like the mouse my cat brought into the house that we thought was dead, some people react with a freeze response.

While he was up in front of 100+ people, frozen, he was unable to feel the warmth from the audience that could have thawed his frozen reaction.

His innovative idea that solves a huge problem wasn't given justice due to his body getting in the way.

Isn't that sad?

What would you do? Would you avoid speaking in public for the rest of your life? Would you feel the fear and go back and do it again, and again, and again? Would you do everything it takes to overcome your stress response?

As I sat 10 feet to the left of this gentleman, I could barely contain myself. Unable to beam my expertise in dealing with the fight or flight response into his frozen body, I found myself feeling as calm as possible and tried to magically transmit that into his body. But I knew it wouldn't work and that was more about me trying to feel like I was doing everything I could.

His bloodstream was all hopped up with the stress hormones and because it takes time to dissipate and because he needed to get away from the scene in order to stop the flow of stress hormones, there really wasn't anything to do in the moment.

As a stroke victim, he seemed to have enough mobility that if he knew, the quickest way to dissipate the junk in his bloodstream would have been to remove himself from the scene and over the course of the next 2 days, engage in moderate physical activity to get the hormones out of his body.

I wonder how he's handling the aftermath. Is he being compassionate with himself or is he lost in a swirl of inner scolding?

Will he let this event define him or will he accept the challenge and overcome?

How can a concert violinist help increase the bottom line?

Diane knows the personal barriers that keep people from operating in their A-Game, especially when it matters most. As a peak performance speaker, Diane speaks for corporate and association audiences and for sales teams that rely on high performance such as direct sales. Audiences gain their own personalized steps for consistent excellence, increasing their effectiveness and increasing the bottom line.

Diane was the concertmaster (the lead violin player) of the Central Oregon Symphony for 15 years where she was expected to be in her A-Game. Any mistake on her part immediately caused a negative ripple effect throughout the orchestra. Being on stage well over 1,000 times, Diane has a proven track record which she now passionately shares as the 3 steps to Own Your A-Game.

As a coach, Diane helps people to confidently be in their A-Game during high stakes events where everything hinges on their performance. For TEDxBend she helped people deliver their talks fearlessly in front of a live audience of 1400 and a worldwide video audience of millions. For the Bend Venture Conference (think Shark Tank) she helped CEO’s of Startups to stand on stage and pitch for hundreds of thousands of dollars and do it without leaving a puddle on the floor. She helps women in upper management at companies such as VMWare, HSBC, and Charles Schwab to keep their cool when they most needed to shine. As a result, they elevate their reputations, advance in leadership roles, and earn more money.

Diane and her husband live in beautiful Bend, OR. Empty nesters, their son is in his adventure phase. When not speaking, Diane can be found out on a hike, cross country skiing, or attending live music events. And while she finds sewing a button the most challenging thing on the planet, she’ll drop everything to volunteer for non-profits and vulnerably share stories that can bring levity, and profound understanding to difficult topics.

When it matters most, do you silently watch yourself grossly under perform? This obstacle does not have to define the level of your success. I've helped over 500 people to get into their "A" game. Getting into your "A" game can change your reputation in a very short period of time.
