It wasn’t intentional, but we happened to be in the area on opening night. The smokehouse burger on Sweet Baby Ray’s menu is a brisket and short rib patty topped with caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and pulled pork. The burger itself has a nice smoky flavor from the brisket and short rib and is well seasoned with garlic and salt. Being a barbeque restaurant, I really expected the pulled pork to steal the spotlight, but I was a little disappointed. The pulled pork was on the drier side and, amazingly, lacked barbeque sauce. Sweet Baby Rays is a juggernaut in the barbecue sauce space, so you’d think the chefs would want to showcase their namesake sauces. In fairness, there was sauce on the table, which I ended up adding, but it’s always preferred to get a burger that works without any modifications at the table. My other issue with this burger was the bun. It was both bland and untoasted, both of which are critical flaws with this burger. Service was a little spotty and the food took an unreasonable amount of time to arrive from the time we ordered. The service issues and slowness are to be expected on opening night, and I expect this to improve over time. The staff offered us a round of drinks for the delay which was much appreciated. As a money-saving tip, make sure to sign up for the Sweet Baby Rays email distribution via their website. We received a free entrée with a purchase of equal value just for signing up.

They get the finest meats and prepare all their sauces from scratch, although you still get a squeeze bottle of SBR on the table. Everything's fresh, they don't even have a freezer! This place in no way resembles any chain restaurant. They have a couple of places in the 'burbs but the menu here was designed by the pit master, Dylan, and it's high end barbecue of all kinds, Texas, Memphis, Carolinas, etc.
