We went there last night and had a fantastic dinner in the dining room on the first floor. The food was amazing and so full of flavor. Seth took really good care of us and had an outstanding suggestion for wine to match the food. If you want to take someone special for dinner to a place with a great ambiance this is the place to go to.

The Business Travel Manager from the Godfrey recommended this restaurant. I was able to call and get a reservation. I was seated immediately. The service was wonderful, the food and wine was delicious. The waitress then brought a desert wine and house made caramels that were just amazing.

Had a great dinner at The Boarding House last weekend. At first glance the menu seems small, but when you take a more detailed look you realize there is a huge variety offered. The waiter was very helpful in picking the wine and even gave us a heads up that there was only one more bottle of our selection left in case we wanted another and didn't want to try something else.

I had been wanting to come here for the last year, and finally decided to come here for my birthday dinner. We had a party of 12, so they sat us up in the mezzanine area on the 3rd floor, which was a bit more private. When you first walk into Boarding House, you see a beautiful chandelier made out of wine glasses that spans the entire bar. It's a great place to just grab drinks with friends. The third floor has a huge chandelier made out of green wine bottles--- the decor of Boarding House is one of the things that made me want to have my birthday dinner here-- the ambiance is great! Tried the ahi tuna crudo, braised octopus, hen egg and polenta fries, stuffed calamari, seared salmon, banana bread pudding, chocolate bar, carrot cake and espresso gelato truffle. Of the appetizers, my favorite were the polenta fries--- polenta cooked to perfection. The ahi tuna was a miserably small portion, but it was good. The squid ink vinaigrette overpowered the octopus, and the octopus was a bit too chewy. The table didn't seem to care much for the calamari. It was annoying that we had to pay for bread service, but the bread was good. Of the desserts, my favorite hands down was the espresso gelato truffle. The chocolate crunch is addicting, and I wanted to steal the whole thing for myself, but we were sharing as a table! The gelato was rich and creamy, just how I like it. The carrot cake was pretty mediocre though. Service was kind of spotty and slow, but then again, we had a large party and stragglers coming in late, so I'm not going to really blame them for it. This is a great restaurant! Oh, and drinks are awesome! I loved the Grow a Pear, and the wine was great as well, as expected.

Can you guys open a restaurant in SF? This was a whole new experience. A mean, food was very good, but the restaurant was super cool. Old building in old town transformed into a very eclectic and chic place. The decor is insanely cool, chandeliers and more. I actually liked the first floor better than the second, the second floor was a little more stiffed but still nice. Great menu, awesome cocktails and good food. Staff could've been a little friendlier but they were good still. Would recommend for a work function.

The ambiance was nice. The drinks were strong. The service was pretty good also. I wish I could give it another star just for those three reasons. However, the food was uninspired and mediocre at best.
