Chuka Umunna described the unions as "powerful forces behind our economic success".

A recent research report Making Skills Work produced byunionlearn showed that that there is a clear win-win situation for employers and the workforce if all aspects of the skills agenda are fully negotiated. Where workplaces are negotiating on learning with recognised unions, they are rewarded with improved productivity and organisational performance.

Tom Wilson, Director of unionlearn said:
'We agree with Chuka Umunna that we have to 'raise our game to compete' in the coming years, and there is every indication that union-supported learning will be a vital part of doing so. It is proven that workplace learning benefits businesses and employees alike as well as contributing to our national economic growth.
We know how effective union-supported learning is at nurturing workers as assets to the organisations they work for, and what a positive outcome this is for all involved'.
