Want to get more involved with your union or reconne...ct with some of your fellow members from across Ontario? We are pleased to offer the opportunity to a group of women members to attend our Women's Day Conference, "Women in Power". We will give preference to those who indicate that they are able to volunteer with us at the International Women's Day March the next day in downtown Toronto (Saturday, March 7). If you are selected, we will notify you by mid-February, and you will be issued leave from work on Friday, March 6.

“At the end of the day, I want to be able to go home and know I’ve done everything I possibly can for the residents.” That’s the first priority for Cathy Labrash and her coworkers who care for people at a long-term care home in Sudbury, and that’s what she told Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Eric Hoskins at a meeting on Wednesday, January 21.

Meet Deqa Farah. “I help people with complex mental health issues recover and live independently in the community.” Deqa provides mental health promotion at Community Resource Connections of Toronto to support adults dealing with complex mental issues.

Meet Lisa Davidson, a Support Worker who looks after adults who suffer from developmental disabilities in a group home for Choices. “I try to support them as much as I can. I love helping my clients.”

Ontario Minister of Community and Social Services Helena Jaczek visited Choices, a facility that helps people who deal with developmental disorders, in Hamilton. SEIU Healthcare members and Chief Steward, Sandee Green, spoke to the Minister about some of the programs that they offer, giving the Minister insight into the specific needs of the people who rely upon their care.

Meet Maurine Stevens. She is a Direct Support Professional for CHOICES, in Dundas. “One client I support has been living with a host family for nearly 20 years. This was a young man who had incredible behavioral needs. Today, his behavioral needs have decreased dramatically.” http://ow.ly/HDsuC
