The mysterious Buk 312 -

I've seen this doing the rounds recently, relating to a photo and a video of a Buk with the number 312. First this, which was supposedly released to the Ukranian media by the SBU

Then this video from March 2013 which shows a Buk with the same number

Has anyone seen Buk 312 stuff before, and can confirm sources, the stories floating around about it, etc?

One thing I've been working on since August 21st is establishing the frontline position on August 21st.  This has involved checking news footage from ANNA News showing Operation Al- Qaboun, a government military operation to capture an area between Qaboun and Jobar, and footage from the opposition attacking government check points, plus some information from locals which I cross-checked against video footage.  That resulted in this map

After producing that map I continued to do more research, and came across this blog post from September 7th
http://exitleftproject.wordpress.com/2013/09/07/motives-behind-the-chemical-strikes-the-theory-of-a-rebel-advance/
This discusses the situation on the ground on August 21st, and includes a map based on reports by locals

Keeping in mind I hadn't seen this map until I had nearly entirely complete my own map, it's very interesting that they are very similar, especially the area to the east where it's believed the rockets would have been launched from if the range is 2-2.5km.

Something I've been helping on recently, a new tool to track social media events coming from Syria in real time, could be a big help in future conflicts as well http://blog.crisis.net/syrian-social-media-journalists-secret-weapon-in-the-crisis-data-revolution/
