The Trajectory of American Politics

If we take JFK's framing of the challenge facing the American people as he began his presidency in 1961, ”And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.”

Reflect on the actual historical events of the next twenty years. And then listen to Reagan in his 1980 presidential campaign asked the American people, “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?” With his answer given in his 1981 inaugural address, “… government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

Books have been written but perhaps these two statements book ended between those 20 years tells it all. And the trajectory Reagan began continues unabated to this day, irrespective of the parties elected.
