“Sunslice is not only the smallest #solarcharger in the world but it has also the best size-to-power ratio. With the rated power output (announced by the #solarpanel producers) of its solar panels of 3.6 Watts, it exceeds the power output of much bigger solar chargers,” the Kickstarter page for the product notes. The Sunslice was invented by a 23-year-old Belgian #energy #engineer and inventor, Henri Gernaey. https://cleantechnica.com/2017/11/17/sunslice-smallest-solar-charger-world-solution-charging-anywhere/

"Bundling #solar with #energy services received the most consumer interest—40% of U.S. #homeowners in broadband households are interested in bundling #solarpower purchasing with their #electricity bill," said Tom Kerber, Director, IoT Strategy, Parks Associates. As retail energy providers experience narrowing margins in their core business, they are examining alternate strategies to build new revenues. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/parks-associates-40-of-us-homeowners-interested-in-bundling-solar-power-with-electric-utility-bill-300557560.html

Passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) #technology, and particularly the monocrystalline silicon version of #PERC, is the hot #solar adoption trend in 2017. While PERC cells are gaining quickly, there is also a significant shift occurring in the marketplace itself, where mono c-Si cells are rapidly replacing multi c-Si cells. If bifacial PERC modules can consistently demonstrate a 10 to 15 percent gain from the rear side, the market will react quickly and favorably. https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/longi-solar-high-efficiency-monocrystalline-solar-surges-in-2017#gs.URt_Vqs

#Manufacturing in #Vietnam has given #BovietSolarUSA a unique lens into automation and risk management through complete supply chain control. Unlike other #solarpanel manufacturers, where R&D maintains a degree of separation from production, #Boviet invests heavily in closed-loop innovation. Learn more on Boviet’s approach to #innovation and how manufacturing in Vietnam supports our company goals in this interview with Jason Luo, a Product Manager based in Vietnam. http://solar.bovietsolarusa.com/why-solar-panel-manufacturing-location-matters

To reduce the risk of violence in Myanmar refugee camps, UNFPA provides #solar-powered #lanterns to women and girls who have to walk to shared toilet facilities at night. In collaboration with the Metta Development Foundation and the Kachin Baptist Convention, UNFPA has distributed nearly 2,500 lanterns to women in the #displacementcamps in Kachin State. http://www.unfpa.org/news/solar-lanterns-light-perilous-path-shared-toilets-myanmar-refugee-camps

The cheapest #electricity on the planet is Mexican #solarpower at 1.77¢/kWh. This record low price of electricity on earth, just beats out the 1.79¢/kWh from Saudi Arabia, and is part of a pattern marching toward 1¢/kWh bids that are coming in 2019 (or sooner). Mexico’s #DepartmentofEnergy along with Cenace announced the results of the country’s ‘Third Long Term Auction.’ Fifteen bids were accepted from eight wind and #solar power companies. https://electrek.co/2017/11/16/cheapest-electricity-on-the-planet-mexican-solar-power/

Heliatek installed the ‘world’s largest building integrated organic #photovoltaic’ (BIOPV) system on top of a school in La Rochelle, France. The ultra-environmentalist #solar installation is seemingly 7-8% efficient, weighs 1/10th the weight of a standard #solarpanel and is held to the roof via an adhesive sticker on the backside of the panel. https://electrek.co/2017/11/17/worlds-largest-building-integrated-organic-solar-power-installation-completed/

Imagine the sides of a towering skyscraper are covered with #windows that are collecting #energy from the sun on a clear day. It’s not just a fantasy. Several companies are creating windows that convert #solarenergy into #electricity. https://www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2017/11/how-solar-windows-could-collect-electricity/

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, #Croatia, which imports nearly 40 percent of its #energy needs, could develop 3,200 megawatts (MW) of #solarpower by 2030. #Renewableenergy accounts for 28 percent of production, however there's only 52 MW of installed power in #solar panels, some six times less than smaller neighbour Slovenia. https://www.reuters.com/article/croatia-solar/croatia-eyes-solar-power-in-bid-to-curb-energy-imports-idUSL8N1NM4D7
