S.T.O.P. Harassment FAQ

What is S.T.O.P Harassment?

S.T.O.P. Harassment is a policy proposal created by Green Ronin Publishing.[1] It claims to have a goal to "keep tabletop gaming events and workplaces free of all forms of harassment, intimidation, and discrimination on the basis of sex, gender, gender identity, and/or sexual orientation." Green Ronin intends it to be adopted by businesses in the tabletop gaming industry, and has proposed it to GAMA's board.[2]

I don't harass people sexually, nor based on race, national origin, or religion. I just harass people for fun, or as revenge for publicly criticizing me. Do I need to worry about this policy?

No. This policy is not designed to consider such harassment.

Sexually harassing people is my primary hobby. Do I need to stop?

Certainly not! While the policy claims to be concerned about sexual harassment, the actual policy features a great deal of protection for you, the harasser.

Am I still allowed to write content that uses thinly veiled versions of people to harass them?

Of course! See the "Free Speech and Artistic Freedom" section of the policy. If someone complains, just claim that it's "legitimately related to fiction" or that you're engaging in "public commentary of an individual member," and that the person complainer is an enemy of free speech and artistic freedom!

I've been harassing someone for years. There are many witnesses. They've verbally insisted that I stop repeatedly, again, in front of witnesses. Am I going to be punished?

Perish the thought! Until the victim has sent you a written request to stop, the policy is to ignore them. Given that many victims will be hesitant to reach out to a harasser, even through an intermediary, this should protect you from most victims.

My victim sent me an email requesting that I stop harassing them. Do I need to?

You should consider it. If you stop harassing them, you're free from suffering any ramifications for your harassment. Do feel free to continue harassing other people!

Of course, why always play it safe? This policy provides additional protections for you if you choose to continue harassing your victim.

What if someone has a preponderance of evidence showing that I harassed them?

No worries! Preponderance of the evidence isn't good enough. It would literally be easier for the victim to sue you in court than to rely on this policy to help them. Given how little evidence tends to exist when someone is harassed, that witnesses can choose to refuse to participate for any reason, and that your shaken victim probably wasn't gathering evidence immediately after your harassment, this all but guarantees that you'll be cleared. If there are no witnesses, or at least no witnesses beyond people who will support you, you're golden!

What if there is 'clear and convincing' evidence of my ongoing harassment after my victim wrote me to ask me to stop? What happens to me?

In that unlikely, don't worry, it's unlikely to be bad. Remember that you have an existing relationship with the organization sanctioning you. Presumably you've done good work for them, and you're probably friends with a bunch of them. Your victim likely has no such connection. The goal of any sanctions "Remedial measures should be designed to stop the harassment, correct its effects, and ensure that the harassment does not recur." Given that your friends at the organization probably don't really think of you as a harasser, that means the sanctions can be incredibly mild. It can be as mild as privately asking you to stop it.

In the unlikely event that the organization actually cuts you off, don't worry, it's the tabletop RPG industry! There are plenty of organizations happy to take you on.

Given a very high standard of evidence, which will be judged by an unaccountable group of people who are likely on good terms with the harasser, and for which any punishments have a good chance of being negligible or minimal, why would a victim report harassment to any organization implementing this policy?

Indeed.

Is this an official Green Ronin Publishing statement?

Not in the slightest. They did not write, authorize, or approve this FAQ. I suspect they'd rather it didn't exist.

Behold! A new product for Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition. In the mountains and caves beneath and above the earth, a new evil stirs. Will your Investigators be bold enough to face it, or die broken in its wake?

Asked this in the forum to no avail, so I'll ask here:

When converting characters/stats from WFRP1e/2e to Zwei, could you just use the Talents and Traits more or less as-written or would it be smarter to grab similar ones that exist in Zweihänder? The math adds up 90% of the time and it doesn't entirely seem worth the extra effort of changing them every time.

Sup gang.

So I'm developing an MHRP What If? Event. Basically, Dormammu got sick of being whooped by 616 all the time, so in order to build his domain he's turned his attention to the entire rest of the multiverse, uniting them as a single dimension and basking in the chaos while he starts to siphon them into the Dark Dimension. Neat, right?

Anyway, I want all the major PC options to be What If? heroes. The event is largely based off the Heroclix What If? boxes, but I want to know: What What If? heroes would you consider essential to a game themed around them?

I have Thordis and Captain America wielding Mjolnir, but I'd love to hear others you think are positively essential What If? characters.

Because I was busy serving the dark masters (i.e. working in the Chaosium Demo Room), I missed my opportunity to go to the What's Happening at Chaosium? panel at Gen Con. What'd I miss? Is there video of it yet? I've heard about Masks of Nyarlathotep at this point, but is there any news on a Malleus Monstrorum revival? What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening.

Hey ya'll! So for my own amusement and my home group I'm working on a custom Event based on the 15th Anniversary HeroClix What If? set, and I'm hitting a little bit of a snag. To that end, I have a handful of questions.

1. When statting a character that's Captain America with Mjolnir, should I include the shield and Mjolnir as one Power Set, or two? Two seems almost a touch overwhelming, but one kind of doesn't quite match the scope of a Cap who has both.

2. In Events, especially AU ones, are the profiles on the back of the sheet (Biography, Equipment and Abilities, Personality) really that important, or is it more crucial that these things be expressed on the sheet via Distinctions, Power Sets, etc.? Part of me thinks yes, that way the PCs will have full context, but part of me thinks it might be a touch too many extra words for a free Event I'm doing mostly for fun.

3. When developing Events, what's kind of the "magic number" of scenes for a three-act structure? I'm thinking 8 Action and 8 Transition per Act just to have a rough balance, but if there's a better, clearer number or another way of going about it, I'm all ears.

Question to the Powers That Be: Do we have an estimate for when Down Darker Trails is coming out in physical? If it's immediately going to print after Gen Con, that's gonna hurt my feelings, cuz I wanna get the PDF so I can have it and then have the discount (it's just a good strategy!) but can't afford it until after Gen Con.
