I'm a white guy who works in the hiphop urban music scene professionally. Although many of the artists I work with use the 'n' word almost obsessively amongst each other in my presence, (and my black friends use the word in conversation with me), I would never dare to use the word myself. I recognize there is a difference in context depending upon who says it. It's just not a place I go, even though I am exposed to it daily and repeatedly in both my social networks and professional relationships. And yeah, there are bigger concerns that white folks should be having around racism other than their 'right' to use a derogatory racial slur.
