HELLO... Hello... hello....

I have not been on G+ for a long time but I have a complaint and I think this is the right place: As some may know, I pretty much have given up on Android. I just don't have time for all the BS, even though I love how it can have multiple users and the ability to act as USB storage so I can add/delete any file from the OS.

But yesterday I had to update and refresh a bunch of Nexus 7 tablets for a non-profit I volunteer for an it was a complete nightmare.

I've done this before for iOS devices and it is simple: You ask for the latest update, you get it, you install it, you wipe the device and you are done.

But on the Nexus 7 there were several iterations of v5 and I had to painfully do one at a time. I started by wiping the devices so the updates would go as fast as possible. I think I had to do a download an dupdate three times to get the devices to 5.1.1.  Then after it got to 5.1.1 there were more system updates available even though the rev did not change from 5.1..1(!). Each time I had to download, apply and then wait while it updated all the apps, all the default apps because remember I had wiped the devices. Finally when I reached the point where it said my system was up to date, I erased the device one more time so the end users will get a fresh start and welcome prompts, and, guess what? Every single native app including the play store needed an update, another hour of updates. That is just ridiculous. Truly ridiculous.

I still have a N7 and N10, in the house, plus my wife and two kids on N5. But they are going bye bye when the time comes.

Good Grief: "It’s worth noting that Photos for OS X obfuscates the file system even more than iPhoto or Aperture do — once you import photos from your camera, it seems to be impossible to locate the original file in the Finder, even if you have Photos set to store the original, full-size images on your computer rather than only keep them in iCloud. Those who want to maintain absolute control over their images will probably want to save original files in Finder and then import the best shots into Photos for further work and sharing" #yosemite   #mac   #photos
