Venue: UWC - Great Hall, Close to B Block

Requirements: Your laptop with android studio setup, working emulator or real device (please test that studio can see your real device before hand).

Please setup android studio as per: https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

If you are unable to get android studio setup, arrive around 1 hour early for the event, we will help you setup so that you are ready to rock by the time the event kicks off.

Also please note: to get the most out of this event, you need to know your way around Java. You need to be comfortable with the syntax and do basic debugging.

This meetup is for members who are interested in writing their first Android App.

We are going to touch on the basics of Android, from idea to conception.

Things we will cover :

1. Prototyping your idea before coding 
2. Using prototyping tools 
3. Activities 
4. Fragments 
5. Integrating libraries 
6. Asynchronous networking in Android

By the end of the meetup you should feel confident to tackle new Android projects. We will post the link to the Play Store of the App we will be building.

I think the perfect testing ground for this, is Cape Town of course ;)
Makani is working to accelerate the shift to clean, renewable energy by developing energy kites, a new type of wind turbine that uses lightweight electronics, advanced materials, and smart software to generate more energy with less materials—all at lower cost.

As GDG Cape Town, we've asked Google developer relations numerous times. They are aware that this is a big pain point for Android developers in SA. Unfortunately there hasn't been an official response or timeline around this, we'll keep trying.

The Google developer group of Cape Town South Africa
Introduction
The Google Developer Group (GDG) Cape Town is a group for people who are interested in Google's technology and/or open source technology. We meet to do talks and workshops around technologies such as google app engine, android, various google service api's, web technologies, open source projects, etc. We also meet to do workshops for non-profits, where we do web or mobile work for non-profits, free of charge, in the spirit of google.

Events are held regularly at the 4th Floor, Woodstock Industrial Centre, Block A, 66 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town, South Africa.
