Really, Really cool.

robot clock. I'd love to make one of these

Okay, funny question. Why does my profile on google plus have 20,000 page views? Is that normal? Plus every time I refresh I get like 5-10 more. Who is stalking my profile?

Useless Lamp - Mindstorms EV3
For our final project in one of my classes, we had to create an art piece based on a movement we studied. I picked Dada, and this is my project, Lamp. Here's a video of it in action. I built the project using two mindstorms large motors and a pressure senso...

Elements of Computing Systems: Chapter 4
This has not been a great week for me. This post was SUPPOSED to be a tutorial for making fluorescent lightbulbs run on batteries. The problem being, of course, that two months and entirely too much solder into the project, my lightbulb remains unlit. Sigh....

Elements of Computing Systems, Chapter 2
Chapter Two took me significantly longer to finish than chapter one, but mostly because I decided to get cheeky with the software. Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should in the interest of efficiency or mental health preservat...

The Elements of Computing Systems, Chapter One
As a programmer and a maker, I think it's important to understand how computers work on all levels. I'm incredibly jealous of people who can build computers in games like Little Big Planet or Minecraft, because it's something I'd love to learn how to do. My...

I'm working on an Ev3 project, and I was wondering if I could get some help with the programming?

I'm building robot that can "fetch" a predetermined item when it's asked for it, but I can't find any way to remotely command it. I've done a little research into the available apps, but none of the ones I've seen are quite right. I want to be able to type in "red ball" on my computer or phone or similar, and have the robot receive that command and start the associated method.

The closest mechanism I've found so far comes from the "read/write file" block, but the file can't be edited by a user while the program is running as far as I can tell.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This was a project we had to make for school (meaning I had to take apart another personal project to get it done. Sigh) but I was happy to find a use for my Ev3 parts and an old lamp.

I found this video in the wake of finals and I really like the approach to learning it suggests. As video games get easier and easier to make, and more and more prevalent, this doesn't seem like such an impossible future. What do you think?

Right. I think one thing that could be really useful is teaching math is to do it through programming. Some simple language specifically for the purpose. That way kids would get the whole "why do I need to learn this" question answered, and I think they'd understand the process of, let's say, multiplying matrices, better if they focused on programming their "calculator" to do it properly instead of worrying about writing out every step on their paper. As technology gets better, I think process becomes more important than memorization.

I'll have to save this video for when I (hopefully) start on my gold award project... Soon? After tech theatre camp next week? June is a messy month schedulewise.

The Elements of Computing Systems, Chapter 3
Finished Chapter 3, all about memory and sequential computer chips. This chapter was generally easier than chapter 2 in my opinion, mostly because all except for one of the chips were just bigger, badder versions of others. Making RAM4k isn't any fundamenta...

A little project I did a while ago, after seeing some of the beds at my local animal shelter.

Make a Heated Cat Hammock
This was a quick weekend project I whipped together for my cat, who's gotten more arthritic and ornery the older she gets. She took up the habit of lying on my Mom's heated throw blanket and biting people whenever we moved her, so I built this as a peace of...
