Majolica (Mayolica) pottery's deep color is due to its hand-crafted pigments and glazes. These pieces are created by hand, using only indigenous clay and paint minerals. Mexico's authentic artisan Talavera and Majolica pottery traditions create stunning beauty. Learn more here: https://rusticagift.com/pages/the-makers-story

Mayolica Santa Rosa's Maria del Carmen Aguilera Salazar

Excellence, Creativity & Business Inspiration in Women-Owned Enterprise

Our Rustica gallery is honored to feature the extraordinary Mayolica (also known as Majolica or Maiolica, depending on where you are in the world!).

With over 45 years of experience, and spanning three generations of family, Mayolica Santa Rosa is a pioneering example of women-driven artistry in the field of fine pottery creation. Continuing the work of Santa Rosa and her mother, Maria del Carmen Aguilera Salazar today uses her artistry, rigorous training and business savvy to continue the work of her forebears.

The Santa Rosa artisans use local minerals to create their richly-beautiful paints and glazes, and every step is looked over by Maria Salazar, the founder’s granddaughter, to ensure the quality, tradition and the family’s pride in craftsmanship are evident in every piece.

In their village studio, a small group of artisans work to turn the region’s rich clay into beautiful, hand-crafted pieces of pottery.

Their wish is to produce useful but lovely heirlooms to beautify spaces and emphasizing Mexican daily life, culture, and traditions. You'll see a richly-evocative look and feel to every piece, yet they are practical, and meant to be enjoyed on your table and in your home.

and crafted treasure from an extraordinary master Artesana, Ruth Cortez Rodriguez of San Miguel de Allende. We worked closely with Ruth to be the first to import her hand-crafted, artisan-design jewelry and treasure boxes for you here in the U.S. Her work is featured in prestigious art markets around the region, and, as with so many of our talented artisans, her business is a family affair. Her daughter Monica Berenice helps keep their business thriving.

We've named these amazing boxes "Tesora" - Spanish for treasure. These hand-tooled, engraved, detailed trinket, jewelry, display, catch-all containers of gorgeousness are truly multi-purpose wonders. Perfect for jewelry, of course, watches, special notes, simply on display, to commemorate a special occasion, and so much more.

Ruth uses a special, exceptionally bright alloy known as Alpaca Silver. Tarnish free and highly durable, it's made from a composite of nickel silver, copper and zinc. There is no plating, and the lustrous sheen will only get more beautiful over time. I've had mine on display for three years, and it's as beautiful as the day I brought it home.

Polished Stone, Turquoise, Onyx

The stones are hand-picked and harvested, and are an extraordinary selection of quartz, marble, turquoise, onyx and more. No two are alike, another reason we call them our "tesoras" - our treasures.
