Destination marketers and inspiration-hungry travelers have tough jobs: the former need to capture the imagination of the latter with information that sets one place apart from all the others. In a busy travel market, it's not at all easy to rise above the noise.

This is especially true for countries that aren't on the list of most-visited places on the planet. And it is even more relevant for countries in the developing world that must overcome serious concerns - both true and exaggerated - about security, health and comfort.

Despite tumultuous recent histories and contemporary setbacks, several East African countries - like Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania - are now rising stars on the global tourism radar, both in Africa and in their own rights. The richness of their ancient and modern human cultures, their intense and incomparable animal and plant biodiversity, and their diversity of landscapes all make them iconic destinations piquing the curiosity of travelers of all stripes.

So what does it take to become an iconic destination in Africa? And what is required to stay top of mind when travelers think about where they want go during their holidays?

These are just some of the topics to be discussed during this Google Travel Hangout On Air, held in cooperation with the +Africa TravelATA  and +Destination Accelerator, that looks at Destination Marketing East African Style - Capturing the Imagination.

Panelists:
