I went with high expectations. There was no A/C. It was like 90 degrees in there. The server took our orders without writing them down. We asked about it and were assured she'd remember. The server screwed up 2 of the orders. One meal was never even cooked until the rest of us were eating. My chicken was very overcooked, very dry. The server never smiled, not once. I think she was the only server for the entire place. This was a weekend night and they were about to run out of hummus, and it was early. I should have left when I realized the owner was trying to save money by having no air conditioning on, in August.

I hadn't been here in over a year and came for dinner. The place was empty on a Friday night. The decor looks nice, but the food just went downhill. My salad was a little soggy and just didn't have much to it. The barbecue lamb quesadilla was a bit slimy. The lamb looked like pasta noodles. The kicker was the owner who came out to ask about our meal. We tried to be polite but did say that the food was not the same. She said, "I'm okay with that," and went on to explain how she was making improvements so the food is better. I don't agree. I need to find out where their former chef and baker went and eat there.

Hi We are not food connoisseurs' but we like a change of pace and as auto mechanics' needed a place that delivered or a take out. We decided on the Desert Cafe but were surprised at the quantity of food we received for the price. Don't get me wrong the flavor and spices were perfect and we enjoyed the little we had. I expected the curry chicken salad to be more than chicken on a three slices of lettuce, four slices of cucumber and four slices of tomato on the side. lost 2 stars for quantity only.

The freshly baked pita and hummus are delicious. The chicken kebab was also tasty. The lentil soup was good, a bit spicy. The split pea soup had a weird flavor and consistency.

This place is great! The hummus sampler was delicious, and the black bean soup was amazing! Excellent service, great atmosphere. Definitely coming here again.

I heard there was a new owner so I was eager to give it another try and I'm so glad I did! The place is a lovely little hide away with fabulous food, service and very reasonable prices. This is my new go-to place in Mt. Washington. Homemade hummus and a menu of great choices. I like bringing my own favorite bottle of wine. My only suggestion would be to drop the corkage fee.

My wife and I visited Desert Cafe on Saturday (12/7/13) and we had a fantastic time. The servers, dancer and manager were all very friendly and wanted to make sure we had a nice time. The environment is chill and relaxing and makes a nice place for a date. The food was extremely good and the prices are fair. Plus, it is BYOB so that is a rare treat (in my opinion). The lamb quesadilla and curry chicken salad are the best. We look forward to visiting again.

Definitely not what we expected. Cramped...not intimate. Tiny portion of hummus for $6.00. Anemic grape leaves. The only real draw is that you can bring your own wine. This is certainly not authentic middle eastern food.
