You have a powerful opportunity to impact the life of a foster child when you volunteer with CASA of Contra Costa County. Not only do children with CASA volunteers have higher graduation rates, but they also have a lower rate of being homeless or committing a crime. We encourage people from all cultures and professions, and of all racial, ethnic and educational backgrounds to apply.
You must be 21 years or older to volunteer.

We are excited to announce that after completing 40 hours of classroom instruction, court hearing observation, and case review observation our newest group of sixteen volunteers was officially sworn-in as Court Appointed Special Advocates last night. The Honorable Rebecca Hardie presided over the evening ceremony, administering the CASA Oath to the new volunteers. Judge Hardie thanked the volunteers for their commitment to the foster children in our county, as well as their families for their encouragement and support. She relayed the importance of the objective information CASA volunteers provide to the court, and prompted the volunteers to remain dedicated in their commitment to abused and neglected children.

These advocates will now embark on their journey to ensure their selected foster children achieve safety, well-being, and permanence. Less than 48% of foster youth graduate from high school or earn a GED. Last year, 100% of our CASA youth graduated from high school, earned a GED or were still in school. We are grateful for the time invested by all CASA volunteers and invite you to become part of the CASA family to be a powerful voice for a child in foster care.

CASA volunteers are appointed by a juvenile court judge to advocate for a child or youth during his or her uncertain journey in the foster care system. Not only do CASA volunteers positively impact the children that they are advocating for, but they experience personal growth as well. Attend one of our Informational Sessions to learn what it takes to become a volunteer.
