A couple of weeks ago, and in collaboration with Gloria Chik of Urbanebloc and Rogue Stories, I was invited to attend the Bridgestone Winter Driving School, in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado. My recent trip to Colorado marked many firsts for me; including but not limited to my first time traveling to the mid-western region of…

Thank you to Flavorwire -- one of my favourite publications, for featuring my photographic documentary on Toronto's hip-hop community, which has been nine years in the making.
Toronto-based photojournalist and cinematographer Ajani Charles has captured some of the biggest names in hip hop, including Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, and Drake. But the photographer feels an intimat...

Toronto, ON - Originally published Dec. 23, 2015 - On Saturday, Dec. 12, Toronto’s Virgin Mobile Mod Club was the center of Toronto hip-hop culture, and reached its full capacity. I arrived at the venue relatively early on, and by midnight, I was concerned that SAFE, his collaborators and the promoters had failed to promote the event adequately. However, my concerns were quickly diminished, when I realized that a massive line had formed outside o...

When I first travelled to Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park in central China, a few years ago, I had no idea that the trip would be as tumultuous as it was. Travelling from Chengdu, in Sichuan province, to Jiuzhaigou, was supposedly an eight hour journey, but ended up becoming a very uncomfortable, fifteen hour bus ride. Firstly, most of…

Check out some of my photographs of Bridgestone's Winter Driving School via +Gloria Chik's Urbanebloc.
The Bridgestone Winter Driving school was founded in 1983. Three tracks, 77-acres, and it sits high up above the ground at 6900 feet above sea level.

Much respect to Complex for sharing my photographic documentary on Toronto's diverse hip-hop community through NTRSCTN. And thank you to Anita Li for taking the time to interview me about one of my most complicated and lengthy projects. I'm grateful.
Women, the LGBTQ community, underprivileged youth, and immigrants are featured in Project T Dot.

Earlier this week, I was in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, working on a project for Bridgestone. It was an amazing experience, even though I was quite exhausted throughout the journey.

I took this photograph over the Rocky Mountains, about twenty minutes prior to landing in Colorado.

Throughout the Arabian Gulf, camel racing is traditionally known as the sport of the sheiks. In Qatar specifically, the pastime became a professional sport in 1972, and camel racing fans enjoy the fiercely competitive games each month, at the Al Shahaniya Racetrack. Located about an hour north of Doha, the racetrack is one of the most popular camel…

Toronto, ON - This Past Thursday night, the youthful energy of Toronto’s hip-hop scene was concentrated within Tattoo, to greet Post Malone’s melodic, country and hip-hop-inspired R&B ballads. When I entered the venue, it was reminiscent of a trap music-themed sauna, wherein everyone in the venue was sweating profusely and bobbing their heads to the resounding lyrics of Scarborough’s Jimmy B. B reminded me of A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg in many w...

During my recent trip to the middle east, one of the most awesome sites that I visited was The Grand ‎Mosque of ‎Qatar, otherwise known as The Abdul Wahhab Mosque. Located relatively close to Doha, Qatar's downtown core, The Grand Moque is the largest mosque in Qatar, and includes 90 domes, 18 entrances and can hold…

Ajani Charles is a professional photojournalist, advertising photographer and cinematographer based in Toronto — the Canadian city famed for its cultural diversity and the creative dynamism of its artistic community. A graduate of the nationally acclaimed Claude Watson Arts Program, Ajani also apprenticed at the Toronto School of Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario and at 235 Films. The mentoring and rigorous training he received at these institutions fertilized his natural talent, shaping him into a versatile and always evolving artist who is well versed in portrait, editorial, glamour, fashion, documentary, product/advertising, architectural, landscape and fine art photography. For Ajani the camera is a medium for self-expression and photography the ideal art form for capturing the ineffable beauty of people, objects, and landscapes. Though his images bear the distinctive stamp of his unique regard and sensibility, his work evidences an eclectic panoply of influences which includes Markus Klinko and Indrani, Jill Greenberg, Yousuf Karsh, Ansel Adams, Alexander Rodchenko, Richard Avedon, Nabil Elderkin, André Kertesz, David LaChapelle, Steven Spielberg, Hype Williams, Zack Snyder, Martin Scorsese, Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz, Jamel Shabazz and Todd Anthony Tyler. Ajani is also the founder and executive director of The Young Visionaries — a Toronto-based photography and cinematography program, providing education to youth from the city’s priority neighbourhoods. What’s more, his work has been displayed at the Skills Canada Photographic Skills Competition where he was awarded a medal for the technical polish of his images as a teenager. His photographs have also been exhibited in such venues as the Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art, The New Era Flagship Store and the Koffler Gallery among others. In addition, Ajani has gained considerable notoriety in the Greater Toronto Area through his first photographic documentary, “Project T Dot” — a visual chronicle of the city’s Hip-Hop culture and community in its entirety through a wide-ranging collection of intimate and dramatic black and white photographs. In production since 2007, “Project T Dot” is currently scheduled for a late 2016 publication date. Ajani counts among his many and varied clients H&M, Universal Music Group, Christian Dior, The Torstar Corporation, BlackBerry and the UFC. His work has been featured in publications such as Jay Z’s Life + Times, Vogue and Design You Trust. Furthermore, he has photographed numerous icons and public figures including the likes of Drake, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Slash, Kanye West, Gene Simmons, Spike Lee and Dana White.

Chief Executive Officer And Creative Director of The Ark Media Group Inc., Producer And Marketing Consultant
Introduction
I am a marketing consultant and producer with a background in fine arts, communication and philosophy.

I began my career as an advertising photographer and photojournalist. I am still very much involved in the profession and with as much enthusiasm today as in my early years.

After years in the trenches as a freelance artist, I founded a Toronto-based marketing agency that specialized in media production for technology companies.

Besides having a great team, the success of my agency and photography company rests primarily on the fact that I am very selective in regards to the clients I work with and my ability to satisfy the needs of my clients in the most effective ways possible.

I strive to creatively exceed my clients’ expectations and to elevate each brand that my companies represent.

My experiences and my outlook on life and on the world have considerably enriched my professional endeavours. I also love traveling and enjoy learning about and documenting various countries and their cultures.

I am therefore keenly aware of the wonderful diversity of humanity and complexity of the world in which we live.

Such an awareness constantly informs my work as an artist, photographer, marketing professional and entrepreneur.

John is a fantastic entrepreneur and one of the best corporate lawyers in Canada. He is very personable and clearly understands the massive paradigm shifts that have been created as a result of technological advances and the incredible entrepreneurial revolution that has helped to define the 21st century. With that being said, I had no choice but to hire him as my company's legal counsel and if you value the well-being of your enterprise, I recommend that you do the same.
