Today is #WorldWaterDay with nearly 1 billion people still lacking access to clean, safe drinking water we still have a long way to go. Seeing this picture of Lake Kivu in Rwanda #FromSpace reminds me of where one effort to provide clean water got it's start. Here's http://bit.ly/10kSyjp the story of how the +Manna Energy Foundation starting with our first trip to Rwanda in 2006 (all the pictures in this album are from that trip) led to 4.5 million people who now have access to clean water, with an additional 3 million who will have clean water by the end of this year. This was all made possible through Manna Energy Ltd. and our partner organizations use of innovative funding.

Note: My efforts with the Manna Energy Foundation and Manna Energy Ltd. are in no way connected with my employment with NASA and are conducted in my off-duty time.

Manna Energy Limited, the social enterprise incubated by the Manna Energy Foundation, develops and deploys sustainable, environmentally sound technologies for clean water, making a difference in the health of millions of people. The goal must be to reduce to zero the number of people without access to clean water.
Access to clean water is a major challenge in the developing world, but the +United Nations reports progress towards the goal of reducing the number of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. Land-locked Malawi, seen in this +NASA photograph taken from the International Space Station at 13:02 GMT on August 19, 2011, is one of the least developed countries on our +Earth, but it is making progress, drop by precious drop. Still today, on UN-Water World Water Day, a billion people still do not have access to clean water.
