Regulatory Update: From 29 April 2016, NSW properties sold with a pool must have a certificate of compliance, issued from the NSW Swimming Pool Register. Newly erected swimming pools require a valid Occupation Certificate and evidence of swimming pool registration may be annexed to the contract in lieu of the Certificate of Compliance. These changes do not apply to strata and community schemes comprising more than two lots, or off-the-plan contracts. Further details:

Breaking News: Real estate group McGrath Limited (ASX:MEA) are now in the midst of a trading halt, prompted by a slowdown in the property market. The halt has been requested pending a review of the company's profit performance, and is expected to be lifted on Tuesday, April 19.

With a small, 0.2% rise across all capital cities in March, the annual rate of capital gains in Australia’s housing market is now at its slowest pace for more than 2.5 years. CoreLogic’s RP Data March Index results show one in five Melbourne inner city apartments selling at a loss, and forecast growth to slow 2-3% nationally.

As of July 1, conveyancing documents which are currently processed through the Electronic Duties Return (EDR) system will no longer be assessed by the New South Wales Office of State Revenue. In a significant push for digital transformation of the industry, the closure of counter services means firms will have to either register for EDR, or engage with an authorised EDR Agent.
