How Can You Tell if An LED LCD TV is Direct-Lit or Edge-Lit?
Besides taking the TV apart, of course

Not sure if midrange LED LCDs get much attention around here, but I have a genuine question for you kind folks.

I've reviewed the Samsung UE40H6400 LED LCD television:

I'm convinced it's a direct-lit LED TV: it's got fantastic backlight uniformity; and its bezel and chassis are not as slender as your typical edge-lit LED TV. I even have an email from a senior Samsung TV engineer stating that it's direct LED.

But some of my readers still think that it's edge-lit, quoting spec sheets on numerous websites. Without tearing down the TV, is there any way for me to determine once and for all whether it's direct-lit or edge-lit?

By the way, the H6400 really is a superb TV, capable of deep blacks and accurate colours. :-)

Looking for the best gaming TV to go with your PlayStation console? Turns out the most responsive ones with lowest input lag are made by Sony. They've thought of everything! :-)

Sony has launched a new media player that allows 2012/ 2013 Bravia X9 Ultra HD TVs to do Netflix 4K streaming. It's not often that you see a company providing support for older sets, so well done Sony! :-)

Just wondering what is everyone's thoughts on installing/ wallmounting curved TVs? I've reviewed a couple from Samsung, and found that the curve doesn't really improve picture quality or viewing angles - it's mainly a novelty feature.

Sony has announced a new Media Player that can play 4K movies and Netflix 4K, and it looks just like a redesigned PS4. Maybe the PlayStation 4 will be updated later with 4K capabilities? Here's hoping! :-)

Ok, so JVC's DLA-X500 "4K" projector isn't really 4K, but man, the blacks it produces are just so intoxicating. Conclusive proof that contrast >>>> resolution.

Been living with Sony's VPL-HW55ES projector for the past few weeks. The loan unit has just been picked up, and I actually feel a sense of loss, which is quite rare for me. This is really a special projector that excels at movies, 3D and especially games.

Given a demo of LG's 55-inch flat-screen OLED TV yesterday. The thinness of the panel is just soooo sexy.

Managed to stream House of Cards in 4K on a Samsung HU8500 UHD TV I'm reviewing at the moment. It's by far and away the best-looking title I've seen in Netflix's catalogue. :-)
