The wild soul. Nature. Shamanic states of awareness. Brain plasticity and gut microbes. Healing. Biophotons, light and sound. The song of the world and a cosmic love affair.

Not sure how all these things fit together? Dive into this month's offering from TendingSacred and discover.

As we spiral forward into 2017, four and a half years after beginning the venture, I have decided to close the cover on the Soul Artist Journal. It is time for a change, to turn my energies elsewhere—more precisely, to focus on the facet of my work that most loudly calls to me, which is the healer’s journey, and to write from the heart and soul about that.

In the days ahead, my new site and column (I’ve never cared for the word “blog”) will go live: TendingSacred

I hope you'll join me there.

Surely this is what is asked in return for the gift of being alive, some sort of sacred reciprocity, breathing in and out, with a soul full of gratitude for the tangled beauty of it all whilst striving to offer a measure of beauty and goodness in exchange.

The light returns, my friend. And a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.

Even for travelers and nomads, transitions are not always easy. To simply be in a place of uncertainty, to trust that a portal of opportunity will open or the bridge appear, requires its own measure of psychological maturity and faith. And though the sacred spark of intention seeds the Field of Possibility, there still ensues a period of gestation and growth, the time needed for manifestation—a “sacred waiting” that, even with one’s focused intent, cannot be hurried or rushed.

Things arrive, or ripen like sweet fruit, on their own schedule, not ours. And curious blessings exist in this, too.

During the past month, moments of uncertainty have found me outside, inhaling the coastal air, bare feet on the earth for my daily Qigong or simply laying hands upon the rough grey bark of the Grandmother Monterey cypress that watches over this little cottage, gently coaxing myself to open the tight places of constriction still held by rusted fingers of doubt.

Be here. Now. All weather passes eventually, and you are always guided and cared for.

Somewhere along some narrow trail or beneath a wise tree, alongside a laughing creek or hidden amid the tightly tangled branches of a hedge, a piece of my soul waits for me to come and find it today.

I know this, everything is alive. Everything speaks. And the world is full of wild magic for those who can see, listen, and truly feel. And I know too that I belong to that world with each and every passing breath.

"In conscious loving, both partners realize that they are whole and complete unto themselves, but that their relating is the place where they overlap and create something larger than either one alone. Each individual remains a distinct entity and ‘circle of being’."

This week in the SAJ, a lesson in relationship learned from a wise pair of old trees... and a reminder from the soul poet Rilke.

Here in the northern hemisphere, as the harvest moon wanes from its partial eclipse, the autumnal equinox (called Mabon in neopagan traditions) looms just days away, and we will officially drift into Fall, my favorite season.
It is as if a small golden key has just turned in its lock with a soft, audible click and a gate swings open, inviting me across the threshold into a hidden garden that I know and love... and I feel the Earth dreaming me awake.

In my own journey as a healer, I’ve learned this: under all our layers of “stuff” and shadows, we really are light. But we don’t find that illumination by seeking transcendence, we uncover it by venturing into the shadows.

Friend, here’s hoping that you realize that your true task in life is not to hold more tightly to things but rather more loosely, to soften your edges, and allow yourself to be stretched — broken open, even — past familiar boundaries. Think of it as ego dismantling, soul forging, and heart shaping.
