It's pretty much settled: I'm a spoiled brat. I was treated to dinner and drinks at Pigalle recently, and the attention to detail there was evident in the meticulous way the food was presented, how the bartender asked for feedback when presenting a cocktail still in progress, and the casual elegance of the back dining room table, crowned with a single red chandelier which I covet for my living room. What a gorgeous way to spend an evening.

Pigalle is a Boston favorite for quiet, elegant dining. Most recently, I had the prix fixe roasted salmon over coucous - crispy/ savory exterior that captured tender salmon, matched nicely w/ coucous and mussels for a symphony of texture and taste. The duet terrine and apple popover w/ sorbet contrast served as marvelous bookends. Wines by the glass - well above expectation. Vistalba Malbec matched the salmon & Prum Kabinett capped dessert.

Not just for Restaurant Week! Pigalle has long been one of Boston's best. The food is always great. The bartenders, esp Michael & Bernadette, are always welcoming & knowledgeable. Lately, the email/Twitter/Facebook specials have really been worth tracking. One recent treat: Beef Bourguignon & a glass of wine for $15 or $20.

When searching for a pre-theater dinner reservation for my family I remembered about this place. While I was dating my then beau he screwed up in a most spectacular fashion. I mean and epic clusterfuck of a blunder. To apologize he took me out on a nice date to Pigalle. The staff were incredibly cordial and the food was wonderful. The atmosphere was elegant and peaceful. I walked pleased as punch and found the perfect place for my mother's birthday dinner.

Despite the hype this place did not deliver. Unlike other reviewers though my service was excellent, probably the best thing about the place (note that I ate early on a Thursday). The homemade sausage in the "cassoulet" was excellent, as was the pairing of stilton with honey and an orange relish, but otherwise everything was mediocre at best. The "cassoulet" was nothing more than white beans (tough, at that) served with a bit of duck confit, sausage and lamb shank. The portion was nicely sized though, appropriately small for such rich food. To top it off, the wine list is poor.
