My dog has a dozen tennis balls in the yard.  Some are red, some are purple, and some are blue.  This tennis ball is the only ball she will play with.  She hides it in the yard every night and retrieves it first thing every morning.

Today in History: U.S. Congress Passes “Sedition Act”
making it a crime to criticize the government during war
On May 16, 1918 — 96 years ago today — the United States Congress passed “the Sedition Act,” which was really a set of amendments to the Espionage Act, passed soon after the U.S. entered World War I in April, 1917. The “Sedition Act of 1918” made it a crime (punishable by not more than 20 years in prison or not more than a $10,000 fine, or both) to willfully utter, print, write, or publish any disloyal, scurrilous, or abusive language about the form of the Government of the United States…

Interestingly, the Sedition Act passed in the Senate by a vote of 48-26 and in the House of Representatives by a vote of 293-1. The lone dissenter in the House was Meyer London, a socialist from New York’s 12th district (and one of only two members of the Socialist Party of America ever elected to the U.S. Congress).

The law was repealed on December 13, 1920 — two years after World War I had ended (November 11, 1918).

When a California teachers' union leader gave a "candid" speech, he made it clear that quality education for children takes a back seat to unrelated political and social goals--as well as to the unions' own interests.
