Attorneys Prepare Free Estate Documents for First Responders at Wills for Heroes Event

Feb. 19, 2014

Attorneys Stephen Dummer, Elise Lowery and Jason Savarese, all of Dummer & Lowery, PLLC, participated in the recent Wills for Heroes event held in Gulfport, Mississippi. The event was open to employees from the Gulfport Police Department, Gulfport Fire Department, and the U.S. Border Patrol.

Stephen, Elise and Jason each drafted Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Advanced Healthcare Directives at no charge to the first responders who attended the event. A total of 20 first responders were served that day. The event was made possible through cooperation with the Wills for Heroes Foundation, the Harrison County Young Lawyers Association and the Mississippi Bar. Lt. Heather Dailey of the Gulfport Police Department served as the coordinator for the event.

Dummer’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, business law, forming business entities, drafting corporate formation agreements, corporate sale contracts, international law, insurance defense, construction law and estate planning. Stephen has also worked with performing compliance analysis for entities seeking Community Development Block Grants. Stephen is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and an accredited attorney for the preparation, presentation and prosecution of claims for veteran’s benefits before the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dummer served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Chief Justice James Smith of the Mississippi Supreme Court in the summer of 2005 and received his J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law in Oxford, Mississippi. He studied international law at the University of Cambridge in England. Stephen completed his B.A. in criminal justice with honors at the University of Wyoming and his A.A. with honors at Northwest College in Wyoming. In 2010, the Gulfport Sun-Herald named Stephen on their list of Top 10 Business Leaders Under 40, and he is a graduate of the “Leadership Gulf Coast” Class of 2011 -2012.

Elise focused in the areas of civil litigation, contract law, divorce and domestic relations, animal law, business formation, international law, and real property. In 2003, Elise received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Mississippi in Oxford. In 2006, she received her Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Elise moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2007, where she served as a Staff Attorney for the Eighth Chancery Court District and subsequently as Prosecutor for the Harrison County Youth Court before returning to practice law in the private sector. Elise is an active member of the Mississippi Bar Association. Elise was selected as a participant in the 2012 Mississippi Bar Leadership Forum, and served on the Young Lawyers Division Board of Directors from 2009-2012, on which she authored legislation and participated in the Wills for Heroes program. Elise is a Past President and active member of the Harrison County Young Lawyers Association, on which she helps organize numerous fundraiser events for local charities. She is a member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA Regional Board of Directors, which recently honored her with a Resolution of Appreciation for exemplary service and leadership. Elise served on the Child Abuse Prevention Center’s Board of Directors, holding the position of VP of Programs from 2009-2011, and was a founding member of the American Red Cross Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter’s Young Professional Advisory Council. Elise’s other affiliations include membership in the American Bar Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, and working as a volunteer with the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

Savarese focuses his practice on land owners’ rights, eminent domain defense, commercial litigation, construction disputes, consumer rights, lemon law vehicle warranty claims, nonprofit corporate formation, contract disputes, estate probate, casino site development, mediation, and the drafting of wills, powers of attorney and advanced healthcare directives. He is a member of the Harrison County Bar Association, former chairman of the Public Service Committee for the Mississippi Bar’s Young Lawyers Division, and past-president of the Harrison County Young Lawyers Association. He received a criminal justice degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, a political science degree from the University of Mississippi, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Savarese resides in Gulfport.
