New blog entry on my Father's Day treat!
Oh, It’s Tops Coffee Shop! You are absolutely perfect, with your wooden booths and ceiling, lunch counter and stools, and vintage neon sign! Where have you been all my life? Oh . . . right there on Market Street. All my li...

We photographers always have those someday shots: "Someday I'm going to get a photo of the full moon rising from Tunnel View in Yosemite National Park." Or, "Someday I'm going to get a long exposure of traffic crossing the Golden Gate Bridge at night with the San Francisco skyline in the background." I have about 2317 "someday" shot plans tucked away in my brain, and today I got one of them: a hot dog at Casper's Hot Dogs in Pleasant Hill, in business since 1962.

I just wanted to comment on your del paso blvd. piece and 1811 del paso blvd is where I live-the store has a barred gated walkway next to it and in the back parking lot with alley access is a square shaped building that was an apt.over a garage that was taken and made into a 4 bdrm house -I think that's the building that was old perrys? garage it still looks like a garage  and almost connects to the free mason building on the back/side .the alley is now gated too for safety reasons but part of my fence is the old original brickwall from way back when lol just thought id tell you -the store up front is empty right now but I think I live in the old mechanics shop /house over it .

Mmm, date shakes!
Palm Springs: a luxurious resort community with ideal weather, or a scorching hot desert unfit for humanity? From what little I had gleaned from passing references in pop culture, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when I h...

Great Sign! I am trying to connect with you to acquire a print of the Anton's Motel sign that you photograghed in Marysville, CA around 2009. Have been unable to find your email address, so please let me know. Thanks, Francine Anton

You seem to take a lot of photos of food or bars.

Story
Tagline
Photographer, old highway historian, and roadside diner lover.
Introduction
I love to learn about, visit, photograph, research, and write about everything that is interesting, unique, and historical about Northern California, and wherever else I should be fortunate enough to find myself.  I've spent many years scouring the roadside in my little car for interesting subjects and walking down hiking trails in the Sierra Nevada and along the coast to get to know the wonder that is Northern California.  I share most of this via photos on Flickr, and as much as time permits me to on my blog, the NorCal Explorer.  Fine art prints of my photos are for sale on Imagekind.
