Many mourn for the people of Nepal.

My good friend and one of the best guides in Nepal, Chhongba Sherpa, was injured by the earthquake-triggered avalanche from Pumori that enveloped Everest Base Camp. He was helicoptered to the clinic at Periche and then to a hospital in Lukla. I do not know the extent of his injuries.

Chhongba's son, Mingmar, was at Camp 2 when the avalanche hit. Hopefully he has made his way down to Camp 1 where a helicopter can take him to base camp. The normal route through the Khumbu Icefall is impassable.

It's just a great blue heron, but it was pretty in the morning light as it flew right at me, landed, and posed, slightly hidden behind some weeds. You can see more birds from yesterday here: http://www.jimblockphoto.com/2015/04/mondays-birds/

A great golfer died Saturday at age 83. Here is Billy Casper after he won the 1965 Western Open. This was my first cover photo, published by Golf World. The quality is poor because I photographed a print that I made in 1965 while still in college. I guess that dates me.

I took this photo while hiking to a black-necked crane festival 4 weeks ago. I was a long way from my NH home.  You can see more photos from this annual event here:

On a very sad note, one of my web pages has gotten a lot of visits lately as people around the world Google Thorung La. Several dozen have died recently on this high pass (17,700 ft) and neighboring areas around Annapurna in Nepal. They were hit by a freak storm. My heart goes out to the relatives of all who perished.

I stopped by the Jenne Farm Monday morning, mostly because I wanted to photograph some areas south of it. I noticed the other photographers stood around waiting for the sun to hit the farm. Then they make a few photos and left.  I felt the scene was better in the earlier softer light, and not nearly as nice in the contrasty sunlight.
