The Truth of Myths
[This post was written in conjunction with my post on NOAH. ] The best movies are myths. The best movies tell the truth. Many people confuse "myth" with something that is not true. But in fact, a proper myth tells the truth within the capsule of something t...

Production wise, it’s an A+.

Content was an B+.  They avoided reality. They didn’t take the obvious next step to explain why we should vote for anything like taxes to improve schools or good roads….which are things I want… and my neighbor may not. They also avoided the irony of representative government and assumed the only government acceptable was one that could vote unanimously …assuming the voters would unanimously agree.

In other words the conversation was sanitized and avoided reality.

But then, perhaps they don't like that nice library they're in. Some people would not want to pay the taxes for it. And those that do want it and see the long term benefit for the common good, would call such taxes stealing.

They did not differentiate between selfishness (I want a bike and healthcare) and the common good. Therein lies the rub. Taking libertarian philosophy to the extreme (no taxes) leads to chaos because there is no unanimous opinion of what the common good is.

If steal from others to get what you want but your victims do not, then by definition you are not providing for the "common good". There is no reason why those with similar goals cannot mutually pool resources to that which they desire.

The notion that a Stateless world is chaotic is false. The State is what gives you wars and atomic bombs. State enforced central banks are what destroy economies. Politicians are what pit neighbor against neighbor to feel the need to steal back what which was already stolen. The State does not unite humanity, it divides us.

asked (several times) to give examples of narrative motion pictures that failed
at the box office because they lacked a true and consistent moral
premise. So...

My story and film students are finishing their first film...a short parody about TWILIGHT and the twitter feed "Bad Luck Brian." The website is here: http://www.badluckbella.com. The story's about a teen girl who in an attempt to get a teen vampire guy to notice her, ditches her real self with funny consequences. This video may become the opening scene.
