675 Nails
3413 Dempster Street, Skokie, IL 60076
I've been a customer of 675 Nails for many years (it's been around at least 15 years.) The warm and talented staff come from all over - Mongolia, Ecuador, Korea, Guatemala and even more exotic places. Owner Angela Kim values Customer Service-which is tangible for those who visit - starting with easy parking, and like “Cheers,” it’s a place where everybody knows your name. Aside from the warmth of the staff, I know my safety and health are of utmost importance here (everything is spotless and I feel confident that instruments are sterile - really important to me.) I know I'm getting a great value - excellent work in a soothing (quiet) environment (no cell phones) at an affordable price. There are perks too, like FREE paraffin treatments for my hands and heels with amani-pedi. Pedicures always include a rejuvenating rest in their new massage chairs w/ colorful the polish lasts forever. There are a variety of manicure services, including French Manicure, and new No-Chip manicures just had my first one- it sill looks great after a week and a half) - all of which include expert cuticle treatments and nail shaping, hand, arm and shoulder massage and Vitamin E treatment.

It is my favorite escape!

The great thing about jazz is how difficult it is to define -the great conflation of European music with rhythms from the African diaspora, etc., etc.... Jazz lovers come to the music from all directions, placing it on the pedestal of high art and relegating it to the booze soaked floors of sad forgotten nightclubs. Jazz critic Joachim Berendt suggests that jazz has a "special relationship to time," "a spontaneity and vitality of musical production in which improvisation plays a role"; and "sonority and manner of phrasing which mirror the individuality of the performing jazz musician." The Paul Abella Trio manifests this ideal - atypical and surprising in their choice of material: aberrant choices that will perhaps speak to better audiences nursed on Zeppelin, the Dead, and the Talking Heads, than those of us who would fall in step behind Duke, Satchmo, Ol' Blue Eyes, the First Lady of Song and all their friends from Tin Pan Alley. Fortunately for me, I've always gone both ways (so to speak) and hearing PAT live was fresh, fun and made me want to mosh (I mean that in the best possible way.) So drink up all you people, order anything you want - and get yourself a dose of the Paul Abella Trio while you're at it.
