Full review of the Tamron 150-600/5-6.3 posted. Impressive performance for a 600mm zoom in the $1000 price class. I'd say it's currently the best value in a long telephoto zoom.

Two new lenses from Tamron. A 16-300 zoom for APS-C cameras. For those looking for a single lens solution, this might be the perfect lens. They've also updated their 28-300 for full frame with new optics and improved moisture sealing.

Interesting camera for aspiring videographers. The new Panasonic Lumix GH4 now has 4K video capability. The first MILC to have it and the first affordable still/video camera. While no price has been announced, it's likely under $2000. The Canon EOS 1D-C (which also has 4K video) is $12,000

What's in store in 2014? Will small digicams disappear? Will mirrorless cameras displace DSLRs?

Update on the availability of the Tamron 150-600 lens I reported on earlier. Release date for the US is January 17th 2014. Still no word on the price though.

I'm currently testing the Tamron 180/3.5 macro and I've been in contact with Tamron about getting a review sample of the new 150-600 as soon as one becomes available. I'm guessing that will probably be mid-to-late January at the soonest.

Good chance to photograph a sunspot right now. There's a large group that should be visible for the next few days. CAUTION - you really need a proper solar filter to do this safely as described in the solar photography section of the following page on my website:
http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/astrophotography2.html. A normal photographic neutral density filter (even a 400x or 1000x) just won't cut enough light. You really need around a minimum of 10000x for photography and closer to 100000x for safe visual viewing.

I'm told that the current Tamron Rebates will expire on 12/31 and will not be renewed. If this is coirrect I'm not sure if that means there will be no rebates in 2014 or if there will be different rebates in 2014, but if you're interested in a Tamron lens, you might consider whether this is the right time to buy.

I think the Tamron SP AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC is a great buy at $350 (after rebate). I use that lens myself.

Adorama have a deal on the Canon Powershot G15 for only $299. That's $200 less than the G16 is currently selling for and a pretty good deal for a premium compact digicam with a 28-140mm (35mm equivalent) f/1.8-2.8 lens and 12MP 1/1.7" sensor.
