Not bad by any means, but not as good as other reviews led me to believe it would be. Surface smoothness is average, paint is a bit faded. 9/27 is still better IMO.

(visited in March 2013) A clean, informative, and tidy little museum with friendly staff. We visited in the low season and just about had the place to ourselves. The settlement exhibit was interesting but nothing that we hadn't already learned at the National Museum of Iceland. It's well worth taking the tour if you don't know much about the Settlement period. The Egil's Saga exhibit, on the other hand, was extremely well done and worthwhile even if you already know about the Saga. The artifacts at each stop along the tour were great - stylized life-sized wooden figures, dioramas, swords, burial chambers, and lots more. There's a cafe upstairs which serves a tasty lunch, and a small gift shop containing the usual books, CDs, postcards, etc. The Settlement Center is a bit too small to be the centerpiece of your day, but it's a great detour while you're driving up the coast taking in the scenery.

The pizza is tasty, generous, and affordable. The atmosphere is pretty rough (it used to be an old McDonald's or something, and the decor is office-standard fluorescent lighting and fake plants) - get it delivered or to go, don't eat there.
