This establishment is marketed as a bar, but if it was marketed as a bar and restaurant I'd give it 3 stars. Dinrks: great. Service: great. Food: meh I tried the Jack Rose and the Marshall Islands Swizzle and both were fantastic. Very smooth and beautiful to look at. Not too bitter, not too sweet. Service was quick and friendly and they moved us from the bar to a table with no problems. They actually moved us to a zebra couch which was heaven to sit on. Give it a try. I also tried the pretzels with mustard and hummus. The pretzels were dry with or without the mustard and the mustard was quite liquid-y which threw me off and it didn't hold onto the could taste the bourbon (no complaints there). The hummus was okay but the accompaniments were great--lots of veggies and chips and good bread.

Nice spot to grab a drink, it's a craft cocktail bar. Similar is some ways to the style of Drink in the Fort Point neighborhood if you have been there. Pretty extensive cocktails based on your preferred taste profile. Smaller menu of light bites. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable on my visit. Overall a great place to go near Fenway for high end cocktails in a comfortable and low key atmosphere.

The Hawthorne is what you'd expect from a restaurant/bar in that area - fancy-schmancy, a little too pricey, with waitstaff that think a little too highly of their extensive knowledge of obscure craft cocktails. Its kind of an awesome place. Good place to go with people who don't mind spending a little cash, or on a date. One note of caution - those floors are EXTREMELY slippery when its rainy out, be careful! Wonderful outdoor patio for some people watching though, can't beat the people watching in Kenmore.

Take the serious approach to craft cocktails at upscale lounges like Drink but subtract the distracted staff, the noise, and the pushy crowds and you get The Hawthorne. Sleek modern and (above all) comfortable space with attentive service and creative cocktails, along with some neat bar bites like beef tongue on toast. It is expensive but it tends to attract a crowd that is more interested in enjoying a serious cocktail than in showing off how much they're paying for it.

Drinks: 4 Decor: 4 Service: 4 Came here Sun night around 9pm. Plenty of space with tasty, creative drinks, and I asked the bartender to whip up something like an old-fashioned but a bit sweeter and more citrusy. Metered street parking.

The bar is located inside the hotel which also houses the popular oyster restaurant. When you enter the bar is located in the room on your right. Atmosphere is cozy during the day and the bartender is social and passionate about their cocktails. I got a little giddy when I saw NY's Please Don't Tell cocktail book on their bookshelf. COCKTAIL: Clover Club? Crushed raspberry, lemon juice, egg whites, gin. Loved it! I needed something sweet and refreshing and the bartender recommended me this drink. After chatting with our bartender for a bit. He managed to get us a table in Island Creek Oyster right away. This is pretty awesome because I wanted to eat there the same day but I was only able to reserve a table for the next day. We got to take our cocktail with us to the table. SADFACE: They didn't have cocktail inspired macarons that day. The vibe is casual/business classy.

A snazzy cocktail joint with excellent service to match. Would you expect anything less from the Eastern Standard/Row34, crew? Bar500a also plays host to quite a few industry gatherings, so ask your favorite bartender when they're headed there next! I had an especially fun day drinking/eating my way through the soon-to-be Jamaica Plain Beer Garden pop-up. Keep your eye on that one as well!
