The first French Club meeting of the school year. It was a great opportunity for our students to discover some French biscuits ("Les langues de chat" that can be literally translated with Cats' tongues). They also learnt that even in France, there are different words to identify the same item according to the region you are from (a "pain au chocolat" in the north is called a "chocolatine" in the south - and this is subject to a big debate in France!- and even in Belgium, they call it a different name: "une couque au chocolat". They also played some board games "Le jeu des 7 familles" (happy families card games)...

Elementary swim season is getting underway. We had a great elementary swim trail earlier this week. Well done to all elementary students who came down and showed us their M'KIS Tiger Spirit.

Our elementary swim team is open to students from grade 2 through to grade 5. It's a great way for our young athletes to get into the competitive spirit as we compete against other international schools. Our coaches are ready to go and can't wait for the first official practice of season.

The written word of an M'KIS student explains how theatre can overcome language barriers and communicate powerful messages. Ana, a grade 11 student at M'KIS, was recently published in the 2018 edition of International Schools Theatre Association - ISTA. Her story reflects on her experience at ISTA and how it will continue to influence her in years to come.

Well done, Ana. You continue to make us proud at M'KIS. For all those who would like to read the article, we have placed a copy of it on the middle and high school notice boards in the breezeway.

Say cheese! From PreK through to the grade 12, everyone seemed to have a smile on their face during photo week. Every student spent a few moments striking poses for the visiting camera crew. It was great fun and we can't wait to see the results. Thanks, Prêt-a-Portrait for an amazing week.

Zoe, our M’KIS rugby star! It fills us with a sense of pride when one of our students gets selected to represent Malaysia. Zoe, a grade 12 student, was recently selected to represent Malaysia in the Youth Touch Rugby World Cup in Malaysia. The team played against some of the top rugby playing nations in the world including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States.

“It was an honor to be selected to represent Malaysia and to play against the best in the world.”

Zoe was introduced to touch rugby in grade 9 by her friends and our long-standing touch rugby coach, Mr. Roderick. After only one season, the rugby bug had bitten and Zoe was hooked for life. Since then, Zoe has been part of a legacy that has won two division one ISAC titles, and a bronze medal in SEASAC division one. Zoe’s hope for this year is to build on these achievements and help lead another M’KIS team to touch rugby success.

Well done, Zoe. The M'KIS Community is very proud of you and we are certain that you will succeed in whatever you put your mind to. Keep pushing forward and crossing that tri-line.
