The 2015 +MIT Mystery Hunt is coming soon.

Walk Across Some Dungeons is a puzzle game I wrote for 2014.  There have been lots of Mystery Hunt puzzles about video games, or even hybrid game/puzzles, but I don't think there have been many where the puzzle is just a game.  I made this one with NetHack in mind.

During the hunt, it was run on a server, so the players could not hack around it (in this javascript version you can read all the source code if you are so motivated).  There were some problems with server load and bugs we never properly diagnosed (maybe a memory leak).  We ended up splitting it among four servers and occasionally restarting them.

I'm having trouble identifying this one, about a 3 inch span.  I suspect it's a kind of orb weaver, but I can't find any comparable images.

I'm pretty sure that when a spider is fuzzy it means "come hug me and I will make you into dinner".

A facetious look into why babies cry.

Babies are annoying, because science.
This 7 minute talk is well done.

I saw this critter on the deck today.  I thought it might be an Asian Longhorned Beetle (http://www.uvm.edu/albeetle/), but it didn't seem "shiny", so maybe it's just a look-alike.

Alaus oculatus:  the eyed click beetle

When frightened, this bug does something crazy with its spine that makes a loud clicking sound and propels the bug several inches into the air.  Then it just lies there with its head and legs tucked in.  Unless it lands on its back, in which case it might snap its spine again in the hopes of flipping over.

Many years ago we had one of these in our house inside of a plant.  It was clicking away and it drove us nuts until we found it.
