Well written (as always). I actually saw one of those billboards a few weeks back on the train to class, and I honestly don't think I'd have noticed if the fundie crowd hadn't raised a stink about them.
Also, for my $HOLIDAY present, I want people who celebrate Christmas/Solstice/Saturnalia/Chaunakkah (when it coincides), $HOLIDAY to stop being arseholes and just understand that there are plenty of winter celebrations to enjoy.
A wee thought for you. Given that Neanderthals probably had a highly symbolic culture marked by burial of the dead and even a sophisticated language, and given that about 1 to 4% of human DNA is probably Neanderthal in origin, and given that some primal instincts or perhaps even cultural notions can be passed on genetically... How possible is it that some of what we consider the most basic elements of our symbolic interpretations of the cosmos go back to our Neanderthal cousins?
+Yin Huey Lai , I have had too much coffee before. It was a slow shift at the café I was working in, and a friend and regular came in, and we decided to play drinking games, but with espresso shots instead of booze. I lost so badly that I downed 14 shots of espresso in 1/2 hour. Given the side-effects, I can say definitively that there is indeed such a thing as too much.
