Back Story:
The original concept track was uploaded by +Jesse Crawford to the File Central servers. +Rod Dunne and +Patrick Sharpe were still working on "Better Days" so +Ray Toler jumped in on +Jesse Crawford's stems and made some electro based additions to the music. Shortly after that "Better Days" had been finished and so +Rod Dunne recorded some guitar work for +Jesse Crawford to compliment the track. +Patrick Sharpe downloaded everyone's stems and started mixing down the audio. +Patrick Sharpe contributed to this track by making some minor changes to the composition and added in aux percussion elements. This track went from Utah to Texas to Ireland and then to New York during it's creation.

We at +The Electro Musician project release all of our music collaboration projects free to the entire Google+ community through Google Play. This is done to demonstrate online social music collaborations. We realize that every project that we work on may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's less about making #1 hits and more about the freedom of creative thought. It's about a team of growing friends who attempt to learn from each other. We enjoy the creative process and by listening to what we've done you get to join in and share that same experience with us.

Building the social campfire:

When I became a "born again Google+er" was near around the time that I kicked off the GIV initiative, which was a Google+ social experiment. I gave my time away for free to everyone on Google+ in order to turn their square headed profile pictures into circle headed ones, which I think we're calling the "Round Head Tribe" now. This experiment did two things.

It increased the visibility of every circle head that I created across the entire Google+ platform (benefit for them).

It allowed me to meet a whole lot of people that I would have never met in any other way, and vise versa. I was trying to expose everyone to new and different ways of being social rather then the accepted statu quo (benefit for me and them).

You can see that project by going here:

https://plus.google.com/u/0/114241850664897298073/posts/GAi8k4nw2kF

I have to GIV, pun intended, thanks to +Denis Labelle for getting that project out to the masses.

What was next?:

So after having that one amazing social experience with so many people here on Google+ I descended into deep thought. How was I going to carry on this concept of finding new ways to socialize with everyone on this amazing platform? Then it hit me in the face, WHAPOW! <--------- that's me getting hit in the face with an idea.

When musicians get together and play music it usually ends up becoming an improvised conversation, although instead of words we use notes. So what happens when a whole bunch of music producers get together? It's the same thing really except the conversation tends to take a little bit longer, lol. The thought of talking and learning about each other through our music was an intense concept that I just had to pursue! This was the birth of +The Electro Musician project on Google+.

The back story:

Earlier on, in 2009, I had already developed an online system for music producers. In a nut shell it allows people to upload and share their music resources in order to collaborate on music projects. Since I had put this project on the back burner for so long I decided to just GIV away the service for free, sound familiar, in order to develop a new way of socializing with more and more Google+ members, but this time through music. So I ported the entire project over to Google+.

Current events:

By opening up this project on Google+ I have formed some very strong friendships between all the people over at +The Electro Musician project. Like +Rod Dunne, +Stephanie Monty, +Ray Toler, +Kathryn van Nieuwkerk, and +Jesse Crawford. Essentially we have created our own social campfire that we all meet up at, sit around, and perform music at but that's not all. We actually have down to earth, and sometimes personal, conversations at our little social campfire and with everyday that goes by our friendships are only getting stronger. As more and more people end their long walks through the Google+ forest and end up at our little campfire I'm sure that we will also be making some new friends like +Victor Garibaldi. He's been pretty quiet so far though. Maybe he went to go for some marshmallows?

The point:

Find your own ways of socializing on this wonderful platform, the possibilities are endless! Get outside of the FaceBox and re-imagine your own social world here on Google+. Go against the norms and re-think how you can share like yourself instead of sharing like everyone else and you'll start to see the real magic behind Google+.

Happy Google+ing people!

It's official! The Electro Musician is now part of Google Music.

We were able to explain our case to the Google Music Team, and we got our point across, so they have decided to grant us safe passage into the Android Market.

Thank you +Google !

This now means that we can use Google+ to do the social bit, File Central to do the secure collaborating bit, and Google Music to spread the music bit. It's a beautiful piece of synergy don't ya think?

There is a stipulation:

"We must not release projects as individuals but rather we must release them as a group."

This wont be hard to uphold because that was the whole point to begin with. Every person on a File Central project will get full written credit for the part they have played in the collaborative music creation process which will in turn drive interest towards their own individual music projects, well that's the plan at any rate. The Electro Musician Google Music page will also provide those collaborators links to their own personal music projects, given that those individuals have signed up for a Google Artist Hub account. This is simply meant to perpetuate the synergy of the entire Google experience.

We can't wait to start sharing our Google+ collaborations, backed by +Google products and services, with everyone here on Google+!

+Sodacon Happy to oblige :) It sounds wicked with a clean/dirty/grungy sound... in fact the tone is killer diller no matter what. As the old soccer saying goes - You kick one over, and I'll head it in ;)

So there has been some rather interesting things that have transpired for The Electro Musician Project as of late.

1:
It looks as if the The Google Music Team will not be approving our application to the Google Music Artist Hub, isn't that sad? To be fair it's simply because we are not a single artist. My only hope was to promote everyone's efforts here by backing a Google service in order to create a win win flow of synergy. :(

FEAR NOT! File Central has it's own method of publicly sharing files, so we can all still win. :) <-------BAM, it's a smiley face.

2:
+Rod Dunne and I (Patrick Sharpe) have gone through the elimination process on 3 potential masters for the Better Days track, but I think +Rod Dunne fell asleep on me before giving me his final stamp of approval. It's early in the morning over there in Ireland so I can't fault him for that (WAKE UP!!!)

We did it this way so that our collaborative story rings true in every possible sense. No one person was making all the choices or decisions here. So please bear with us.

Better Days (Google+ world wide collaboration) due for public release tomorrow!

3:
With only some minor confusion +Ray Toler has chimed back in after I thought he had disappeared on us. Day time jobs, you gotta love em. So now that he has emailed us we're going to get him all set up on the system and hopefully start collaborating on some new projects with him.

Not to worry about the Google Artist Hub. Perhaps we should apply individually?

Yesterday the last of the performances had come in for "Better Days", so today we're working on some minor performance editing, vocal editing, and tweaking of the sound for the final mix so that it can go through the Mid Side Processing portion of the mastering phase.

Piano, drum/percussion, and bass performances by +Patrick Sharpe
Rhythm guitar and vocal performances/recording by +Rod Dunne

Engineering and editing by +Patrick Sharpe

We're almost finished and ready to release this amazingly fun collaboration that has occurred between two people who have never met and are separated by more than 3,000 miles.

If you dig this track please feel free to share this with all of your wonderful circles

Better Days:

Ska/Reggae influenced

This track was a collaboration by two people who have never met and are separated by more than 3000 miles. One in New York and the other in Ireland. +Patrick Sharpe and +Rod Dunne.

"We hooked up here on Google+ and used +The Electro Musician project to accomplish this wonderful collaboration."

The song and lyrics were inspired by Claude & Camille Monet and the love that they shared, even in death. "We wanted to transform this tragedy into something beautiful with a focus on their love for one another, and we wanted to share this with all the wonderful Google+er's out there because you too inspire us everyday."

Without further ado here's the music:

http://filecentral.electromusician.com/web/betterdays

Here's the Lyrics (in case you want to sing along):

- verse (denial)
Seems like you're finally getting better, it’s about time too
In spite of all my best intentions, my reflexes drew me to
mechanically observing the colours running from your face
An operation to remember who's forehead I'd once embraced

- chorus
Those are the days that help you appreciate
the better days and helps bring about a smile
Even when they're difficult to
Especially when they're difficult to

- verse (reminisces)
Remember back into the garden, posing for another painting
Nearly lost amongst the shadows of the man whose life you shared
Compelled me to new disappointments, on seeing that couch, that green dress
All through those years we virtually needed no one else

- verse (acceptance)
See I know I’ll see you shortly, it's about time too
Yes there were some minor holdouts, consensus never queues
The bed we shared, the love you spared, both seen better days
All those tears we both force back in to the haze our life became

Project Alpha Wave:

A folder in File Central will be made available to all it's members. This folder will consist of one shot samples of various instrument types. These one shot samples are to be built into a track.

The rules:

1. You must only use the available samples contained within the resource folder.
2. The track must not be any longer than 3 minuets.
3. Once the tracks are finished their stems must be shared to everyone available in File Central (minus the admin)
4. You must take the other participant's stems and form them into something unique by adding in your own creative twist.
5. You must encode the finalized tracks into the MP3 format.
6. These finalized MP3 tracks must be shared back into the Project Alpha Wave/Project Dump folder in File Central.

Project Alpha Wave is designed to inspire collaborative learning, sharing, and insight to each individual participant's production process.

There is no time limit for this exercise!

The folder and it's resources will be made available soon to File Central members only.

I will say this: When it comes to mixing and mastering there are no correct answers. It's like telling Michael D'Angelo that his techniques were all wrong, some may agree and most simply wont. Any and all art is subjective. All we can do is learn, refine, and hope people enjoy our sounds. Sound is a never ending learning process.

If we had sound right and down to a science the first time out of the gate than music would still have the exact same sound qualities as we had back in the 50's or even earlier. We can clearly see how sound has evolved, and with the addition of the volume wars we can see how it will simply continue to evolve for better or for worse.

You will get there and you will have your own unique sound because you're unique as an individual. :)

The Electro Musician isn't a genre specific production project. The name simply defines our approach to manipulating music using electronic or digital production techniques.

The Electro Musician truly believes in the power of collaboration, or the crowd sourcing of other producers, in order to foster more organically driven tribe based music creations. Just like Google+ connects people The Electro Musician project also want's to connect people to the power of collaboration, and there's no better venue to get started than Google+. That's why we're here.

The Electro Musician project is based on a system that allows musicians and producers to securely share production resource files with each other in a self contained online social environment. This system is called File Central. It is closed to the public at large to keep our information and projects safe from external scrutiny, until our community decides to release that information.

We work on the basis of shared copyright ownership. You will be credited for the work that you do within a collaboration. We do not sell the collaborations that we work on but rather we give those creations to the Google+ community through Google Play. We are a non profit collaborative project.

What can you expect from The Electro Musician on Google+? At the start we will be posting images, writings, and eventually music that demonstrates real online collaborations by people found on the Google+ platform. You can start being a part of this creative process simply by adding us to your circles and following our collaborations.
