Merry Christmas from our family to yours! This year we had the pleasure of adopting a military family for Christmas. The husband/dad is currently serving our country overseas and can't be home. I hope this family knows how much we appreciate his service and hope they have a very Merry Christmas!

An incandescent light-bulb takes just enough electric current to make a piece of metal glow brightly enough to give out visible light yet not get so hot that it melts and breaks. The piece of metal is called a tungsten filament.

Now ask your friends if they know what a tungsten filament is used for and see how much they know about something we all use!

I want to take a moment and recognize our employees....These last couple of weeks our guys have worked hard putting in many hours to make sure our job sites and customers were taken care of. They have worked early mornings, late nights, weekends and even 4th of July with no complaints and I can't tell you how proud we are to have an amazing crew that we have! Thank you to our customers for being understanding and patient during these past couple weeks but a huge thank you to our employees for getting in there and doing whatever it takes to get things done. We are proud of our team!

Good morning fans! I have to tell you about something pretty cool that just happened. We do our part to pay it forward here at Midway Electric, Inc. and I can't tell you how awesome it was to have someone call and pay someones bill! We had an after hours emergency call this past weekend for the service that was pulled off a home. A wonderful person called and paid this bill and asked me to send a little note with their voided check back to them and tell them to have a very Merry Christmas! Totally makes us smile when we have rock star customers that are willing to help others... Thank you!

A portable generator can also serve your power needs if the power goes off. They can also be wired to your electric panel, but many people keep them totally portable and just bring them out when the power goes down. Generators usually run on gasoline, diesel, or propane gas.

I'd love to be the house on the block that still had its lights on while the rest of the neighbor sat in darkness. We have some elderly neighbors who could use a little more power-security.

Midway Electric, Inc. is so proud to be a Partner in Education with Midway Heights Elementary School in Columbia, MO. This elementary school is where +Michele Spry attended as a youngster! Since 2008, when we became a PIE we have been working with the teachers and staff to find ways to help out. Along with our other PIE, D&H Drugstore, we created a read-a-thon. This year is our 3rd Annual Read-A-Thon and our theme this year is "Once Upon A Time". With this theme we are taking things back to the classic fairytales that the kiddos don't often hear anymore. You know the "oldies but goodies" like Jack and the Beanstalk, Puss in Boots, Cinderella and Snow White to name a few.

We have started our week long read-a-thon on Monday April 30th and will go until Friday May 4th. During this time we have signed up almost 70 guest readers that come into our school and read to a classroom. With 13 classrooms total we have at least one and sometimes 2 or 3 guest readers read to our students each day. The kiddos love it and it's so funny to hear them say "Mrs. Spry, Mrs. Spry who will be reading to our classroom today?" They get super excited and all the hard work that goes into this week makes it all worth it because of those adorable smiling faces! It's a great way to get community members and leaders (such as our Mayor, Police Department, Fire Department and local businesses) in front of the kids.

Prior to this week we did a reading challenge. We asked all 306 students to read at least 200 minutes or more and try to get a pledge of $25 for reading. The packets have been flying back in and today is the final day to turn all reading minutes and money in. What are we going to do with the money? All money raised will 100% go for technology (iPads and/or Net books) in our classrooms. We want the kiddos to have technology readily available to them therefore we have had to come up with creative ways to do this. We have also applied for a grant as well. As Partner in Education we are also putting money in to supply these items. We want our students to be on the front side of technology as they move forward in their education. We are so lucky to be a part of a great little country school and we are working hard to help bridge the literacy gap.... one student at a time.

I'll post some reading pictures soon! Have a great day!

Pros: quick & good communication Cons: Broke a step/stone with the trencher & not to mention I will have to get a 1/2-3/4 truckload of dirt to fill in the trench..
