A personal Presser about a friend of mine.

On October 1st, 2011, Canada’s own MMA referee Brian Beauchamp has been promoted to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under elite grappler Teimoc-Johnston-Ono.

Regarding Beauchamp’s promotion Teimoc-Johnston-Ono states: “I have known and trained with Brian for 25 years, with Brian being on the Canadian National Team, and me, on the USA National Team. Brian has been a strong competitor all his life and his record stands for itself. Competition has been one of the founding principals of BJJ with individuals proving themselves on the mats. It is a philosophy that both Brian and I share”.

Beauchamp is a 6 time Pan American BJJ champion and an 8 time world masters BJJ champion. He was also Grapplers Quest – Canadian Grappler of the year, and in Judo was a 5 time US nationals Black belt masters division champion. He has parlayed his experience to MMA where he is both a referee and judge, bringing a wealth of combat grappling experience to the MMA arena. Beauchamp is now one of the few referees with dual black belts in both Judo and BJJ, with an impressive grappling competition record that few have achieved in the sport.

Teimoc-Johnston-Ono, was a member of the US Olympic Team for Judo, and eventually took a position as Judo head coach of the prestigious US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Johnston also runs the Judo and BJJ program at the New York Athletic Club, as well as teaching both BJJ and Judo at the 5 points martial arts academy in New York.

Johnston-Ono always learning innovative grappling, and new ways to challenge himself, eventually turned to BJJ. In 2003 Teimoc won the World Masters Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Brazil. To date he is the only non-Brazilian to win both the Black Belt division and the Absolute Black Belt divisions. Returning in 2006, 2007 and 2008 Teimoc consecutively took home first place in both divisions. He received his Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in 2006 under Fabricio Martins Costa, as well as Renzo Gracie. Teimoc is the only person to win the prestigious World Masters competition in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Horrible forearm break at Rumble in the Cage 44 (www.rumbleinthecage.com)
Jared Kilkenny vs. Moise Rimbon at Rumble in the Cage 44

Still images to follow

It reminded me of the scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when the bone in his forearm was removed
(YES I watched Harry Potter, and liked it!!)
