A small, one line tracking code adjustment is all it takes to get better demographic information within Google Analytics.
Tip of the Week: Enable Demographics & Interest Reports
Posted by +Daniel Waisberg

When analyzing customer behavior on websites, it is critical to segment traffic in order to understand what is working and what is not. In addition to all the segmentation options on Google Analytics, you can can also update your code to enable segmentation by Gender, Age and Interests.

This change will empower you to understand how males and females (in different age groups) behave on the website and what works for each group. You will also get insight into interests and affinities of your online customers. Learn more about the reports and how to enable them at goo.gl/L5UmkC

Thinking your recent Social Media blitz will increase sales? Think again. Social Media takes time--a lot of time--to see any results. Even then, it's more about brand awareness than it is about direct sales.
Social Media Advertising Does Not Influence Purchases.

Gallup finds people use social media to connect with friends and family. http://goo.gl/FU7qsX  I know that this seems like doh!. But consider that US companies spent $5 billion (nine zeros) on social media ads in 2013. For what?

Between G+, TW and FB I have half a million followers. From practice I have an understanding of the medium, and I believe it is of value.

But not for pimping, and not for short-term impact of any kind. If your brand is inherently social, do social. If your marketing/relationship officer can give you a few years to see results, do social.  Else, quit. Or flush the social media ads you buy down the loo, it will go round and round and it is kind of fun to see.

The sad thing is there is that little will change. The most prominent button you will see on your Facebook page is "Promote Page" to earn likes. FB knows that most executives just want to see that number go up and will be happy. Even if that by itself delivers close to zero (or even negative) results.

People like short term impact. But you, you are smart. If you are a "Social Media Marketer", seek companies that will invest in social because the brand is social (or can evolve to be) and will measure your success over the long term.

Just finalized the entry to the 2014 AdAge Awards for Campaign of the Year - Digital (in PPC Advertising). I was contacted by Google as part of their Partners program and asked to submit a campaign for nomination based on their review of client campaigns in our account since 2013. Wish us luck!

The Ecommerce Amplifier SMART Tools system is just about complete and should be officially available for download very soon. What we've done is developed a suite of tools that ecommerce stores can use to help them gather more data, increase website sales, and decrease expenses. It is cross store compatible and will operate on the following open source cart platforms:  ZenCart, OSC, Prestashop, XCart. In line to be added are other platforms including Magento.

Stay tuned for release details.
