Just Another Sunrise Wallpaper

Good morning G+, after my more controversial image from yesterday I thought it would be nice to drop the temperature down a little by adding another image to the wallpaper gallery here, this is 1600px at its widest and free to download with the rest of them.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

Fukushima Mon Amour

There was a time when I had to use a map to explain to friends from outside of Japan exactly where my wife came from.

I don't have to do that now.... since the 3/11 quake, tsunami and resulting nuclear accident, it seems almost everyone knows where Fukushima is.

Update to this post since so many of you have commented: I want to make a desktop wallpaper of this shot, so you can all have it to enjoy. It's an old file from a time when my workflow was not as tight as it is now. Hence, I will have to re-edit the RAW from scratch to get this sort of style of shot. As I just made this low-rez JPEG before. So, hang in there please... wallpaper on the way.

This was shot in my wife's hometown of Ishikawa-machi, some 55km inland from the reactors of Dai-Ichi. I shot it just down the road from our house in 2008, the first sakura season after we returned to Japan to live. It was a very joyful spring.

Above the family's house in Ishikawa there is a 500 year-old cherry tree. It's a listed 'treasure' of Fukushima Prefecture and visited by many people throughout hanami season. Our parties there with family always include many strangers, visitors to 'Takadazakura' (that's the name of the tree). Good fun times. The tree in our Ishikawa garden grew from a cutting taken from Takadazakura.

I hope to spend some time under its branches again soon.

It's been a tough year for Fukushima and the future is far from certain or rosy.

It's a beautiful part of Japan. I cherish these photos. They remind me of good, carefree times in Fukushima. We look forward having such times again.

One From the Archives, Ahead of Two Days in Nagoya

Here's an old shot of mine, made in Prague in 1998. Been going through some old shots this evening and this one hasn't seen the light of day in a long time.

I am sat here getting ready for a couple of days in Nagoya; tomorrow I'll be exploring and finding locations for a workshop I want to do in the city later this year. Monday I am shooting at Nagoya Airfield, making a client's aircraft look amazing for their advertising campaign.

So, anyone in Nagoya fancy hooking up tomorrow? I'll be in town all day and just mooching around with the cameras so if you fancy catching up, that'd be great.

This Shot?

Walking through Yanaka's Cherry Blossom

Spent the day yesterday doing a private tour/lesson with a lady in town from overseas. We're out again today, down in Kamakura.

This shot was one I grabbed in Yanaka Cemetery as we made our way down towards Ueno. Great day, with the wind and rainshowers whipping the sakura up into snowstorms of petals.

Showed the lady in this shot the photo and she loved it.... always nice to interact with one's candid subjects after the photo's been shot.
