Hi,

These are three interesting things I learned from Activity One.

1. I found it interesting that Polar Bears would rather walk than swim.  Mothers will walk for miles to keep cubs out of water to avoid the risk of hypothermia.

2. I was surprised to learn that half of the water in the US is used for grain to  feed cattle. This is especially important because of the  parts of the US that are dealing with drought and water shortages. Eating vegetarian meals seems to be an easy way to offset our water usage.

3. The polar bear skull has several adaptations to living in the arctic but I did not know that it actually warms the chilly air before reaching the lungs.

Hi Everyone. I'm Jeannie and I am an Interpreter at the Saint Louis Zoo. I do informal education with children and adults. I am looking forward to learning new ideas to share about polar bears and climate change.
