I got our car stuck in the snow. My girlfriend, Jess, our Boston Terrier, Oliver, and I had just finished a short sunset hike through the snow in Colorado's

We made a pit-stop to hike up a big tufa. Truly a hidden desert treasure.
We pulled up to the farmyard and stopped at the fence causing the cloud of dust to catch up and swirl past the gate towards the house. We got out, research permit from the Namibian Geologic Survey in hand, walked to the fence and waited. After a couple minutes passed a white farmer with a shaven ...

Well the year is winding down so I thought I would give a little recap of some highlights. Jess and I are planning our winter Southwest roadtrip I think I'll have to let her drive a bit. It might get dangerous with me at the wheel. Are you taking a holiday road trip?

This weeks photo comes from a spectacular outcrop at Point Lobos, California. If you are there, try to time it with low tide, or you'll miss this. Soft sediment deformation occurs in unlithified sediments. Sometimes a trigger such as rapid loading by a mass wasting event or an earthquake is ...

Conjugate deformation bands from Garden of the Gods, CO http://www.upsection.com/2014/11/friday-rocks-36-conjugate-deformation-bands/
Deformation bands are mm wide shear offsets that typically occur in porous rock such as sandstone at shallow depths (Aydin 1978). Offsets on deformation bands are typically small and may be distributed across the entire length of the structure (cm to kms). Brittle deformation via breaking and ...

Waiter needed a credit card before he would let me order. I told him I wanted to pay cash. Wouldn't let me order without putting my card down. Of course he forgets to bring the card back to me when he brings the bill. Very unprofessional service. Hope he doesn't add any extra tips to my card!
