Rubys Orchard, Beaworthy, Devon gets a 5 star review⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had never been to an exclusive use campsite before but, I have to say, the experience was fantastic, despite the fact that the weather for our weeks stay was somewhat changeable. The location is certainly off the beaten track and wonderfully peaceful because of it. Being very much a rural setting there are narrow country lanes and, farm traffic and noise during the day, but nothing that spoilt the feel of the place. Be prepared to drive slowly along the lanes and use the passing places when encountering other traffic and people on horseback - this is North Devon, everything has a more relaxed pace to it. We were welcomed onto the site by the owner, and she couldn't have been more welcoming. We were taken over the site and given the ins and outs of how it worked, including how to use the composter toilets and hand pump showers, details of which were also written up inside for future reference. There is mains water to the site, but no running hot water; you provide your own by boiling kettles. There is also no mains electricity, although we had the use of Sun King solar powered lights, in both the bell tent and kitchen tent, from which it is possible to charge mobile phones. We had brought power bricks and our own portable solar charger, all of which served us admirably. This may not quite be glamping, although having a welcome hamper with freshly made scones, clotted cream and a choice of black-currant and strawberry jam, and a basket of free-range eggs... It felt pretty good to me. There is an element of self sufficiency when you stay at Ruby's Orchard, although all the facilities are there. There is room to spread out and relax, there is a superb fire bowl to sit around as well as and a couple of couple of easy to use bucket BBQ's to cook on. It would be perfectly possible to spend your entire time on site, relaxing and enjoying the fact that you are off the grid, only popping out to buy essentials. However, North devon does have it's sites and attractions, and a bit of research and pre-planning before you arrive will give you options for any wet and dry days, but travel will be necessary. Yes, the showers can take a little getting used to, and it always feels strange not flushing after using a toilet, but if you invest in the experience it will work for you. At this point I will mention that my wife and I are veteran campers from the days when you paid a farmer to pitch up in a field, washed in a bowl and used a porta-potty. Our teenage children (14 and 16 years old) have had about eight years worth of camping experience at different sites around the UK, but being typical adolescents we were unsure how they would take to this as they appeared to be becoming more dependent on electronic devices. They loved it, and we spent entire evenings together when it was wet, playing board games, on the table in kitchen tent, that had previously been relegated to the attic because we could never find time to play them with all the other modern day distractions. This is a holiday experience that will fully reward those who are prepared to put aside modern expectations and enjoy each others company in very pleasant, peaceful surroundings.

Sunnyside Farm, Chilham, Kent gets a 5 star review

Had a great 4 night stay at this lovely quiet campsite. Facilities are superb. There is a block with 2 WCs and 2 showers. This building also houses a sink with hot water and a small fridge. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer (use of which is £5 per wash). All the pitches are wired for electric hook up if that's what you need. The owners are attentive and all is kept clean. I would recommend the site to anyone and will definitely return another time.

Captain Bluebells Farm, Skegness, Lincolnshire gets a 5 star review

A great big huge thank you to Jon and all the team here at Captain Bluebells. We have had the most fabulous 5 nights on the site, the great welcome was just the start of the chat and banter we have shared. Our 4year old has loved being able to run free, feed the animals and watch the alpaca being sheered. I don't think Colin will need feeding for the rest of the summer!! Nothing was any trouble for Jon, who parked us up, lent us a step as we had just broken ours and gave us great information about the area. The facilities were kept spotlessly clean with plenty of nice hot water. The little area with a microwave and boiling hot water was great for my husband who enjoyed an early morning cup of tea without having to wake me up boiling the kettle. It also has a fridge, freezer and microwave so no need to do lots of running to the shops. Looking forward to coming back again.....as long as Jon can guarantee the weather will be as good lol :-) See you again soon Pat, Lou & Kaie

Hidden Valley Camping, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire gets a 5 star review

Had a three night stay at Hidden Valley - site is very nice, just what we wanted from a campsite. The view from our pitch was fantastic and the site was very quiet even with several other campers on site we hardly saw anyone else. Toilets and facilities are clean and work well. So nice to have a campfire and to be able to cook on it. Site staff are very friendly and helpful.
